If you're confident in your ability and don't have to worry about the money of spending on tuition at first (his dad aint hurtin) and you're confident in what Alabama does and the possibility of a championship, why not? Plus, his sister goes to UA.

Estimated cost for a semester at UA—out of state—is right at 19K. I haven't read when he plans to start, but if it is this spring his father is looking at right at 60K to cover spring, summer, and the fall semester of 2013. Even with a good amount of money, that still isn't cheap.
The thing about Del Rio is his "preferred" status. In essence, the biggest different when it comes to just being a walk-on is how your financial aid is calculated. In JDR's case, he probably wouldn't quality for grants in aid due to his parents finances, but even if he did it would have an effect on the numbers (85 on scholly.) The preferred status can work against you. Bottom line, if he develops, we'll have to keep him off the field until we need him.
As to my feelings? He's a D1 QB prospect. Getting him to walk-on is a steal.
I figure either he thinks he is good enough and wants to have the best team around him, or he thinks he cannot be a NFL QB so he wants to someday be a coach himself and will use this opportunity to learn from the best.
