What are your favorite Bama football traditions, and why?

Football traditions?

It has to be a cigar. Whether in Tuscaloosa or not after a victory against Tennessee there's always one lit. Heck, it's a tradition to the point that Monday preceding the game I'll visit a tobacco shop and pick out one for the game. A loss, and that joker is trashed. Thankfully, I haven't thrown away any in several years but there has been a string of years I didn't smoke a cigar at all.

Never, EVER, give them away.

You're probably wondering what a cigar and a victory over Tennessee have in common. It's a tradition dating back to a win over 50 years ago now. I know, I know. The surgeon general frowns on the use of tobacco. That's part of what makes it special, and ironic. It was the head trainer, Jim Goosetree, that handed out cigars after a victory.

One thing I'll bet you on, in a heartbeat. If you visit ANY Alabama football forum the evening of 10/20/2012 you'll see the phrase, "smoke 'em if you got 'em." Yes, I'm counting on this year being the sixth in a row.

I don't know if that is the loudest ever. But, from all accounts, it was up there.

She is reading Warren St. John's book now that I think about it...so, she may understand the tradition of the cheer.

Philly, another tradition of Alabama football fans? Arguing over when RJYH should be used.

You'll have one side who says after every win. Another saying only after wins that mean something, IE: UT, AU, UF, etc.

For me personally it's walking down the strip and on the quad on gameday. So many awesome sights and sounds to get you ready for a gameday. From going to the Houndstooth and watching a few of the early games to walking down to Denny Chimes and hearing a great deal of "Roll Tide!" along the way, or a car passing that's playing "Sweet Home Alabama" or "Yea, Alabama." That's my absolute favorite part of going to an Alabama football game.

LOL, I actually do know a fair amount about Bama traditions, I knew about Rammer Jammer when I started to watch college football :icon_lol:

The UT victory cigar is the best!! I love Rammer Jammer, Tuscaloosa on game day too!!
