The Kick
15 seconds to go
Again from the 46
Shula keeping a back in for protection
Looks. Sets. Looking Looking Dumping
Head to the boundy Greg! Head to the boundry!
Get out of bounds! He does! 35 yard line!
6 seconds to go! Lets bring on the field goal unit!
Got to, there's only time for one more play. The ball's at the Auburn 36. So it's going to be about a 52 yard attempt. A 52 yard attempt for Van Tiffen.
This would win the game. A 52 yard try.

The clock will not start until the ball is snapped.

Here is the snap.

The kick.

It is in the air.

It has DistAAANCE.

IT'S GOOD! IT'S GOOD!

It's good! IT'S GOOD! It's good! IT'S GOOD!

Van Tiffen has won the ball game!

ALABAMA HAS BEATEN AUBURN! VAN TIFFEN! HAS KICKED A 52 YARD FIELD GOAL! AND THE STATE OF ALABAMA IS CRIMSON!

If they ever invent a drug that makes you feel the same way I did right after this play, I will be a junky the rest of my life.

On a side note about "The Kick"

I was watching that game at a friend's house and all he had was a set of rabbit ears antennas. When the TV guy said "and there's the snap", the antenna fell off and it pulled the wires out. Of course the TV went to snow, and the sound went out. When we finally got the TV back on, the broadcast was over, so we still didn't know if it was good or not. I had to go out to my truck and turn the radio on to see who won the ball game.

Oh man, I would've died!

I was at that game with a 101 fever and sick as a dog. My friend caught a little boy kicking purses out of the stands into the breezeways with his feet and taking off.....she almost lost everything and yet we acted like it was Christmas morning - Nothing could bring us down. I hope to feel like that again in 15 days!

It is now, but death threats were made to my friend if he didn't get the TV back on.

 Wait, I have to hear this one. lol

Heres one that has stuck out in my mind after all these years. I can still hear John Forney calling the game against Tennessee in 1966. He said "Its blocked It's Blocked Its Blocked" The Crimson Tide blocked a field goal to deny Tennessee the win on the last play of the game and i couldn't believe it. Eli is a good announcer but John Forney will always be the Voice of the Crimson Tide to me at least. I finally got his autograph years later.
