šŸˆ Famed odds maker Danny Sheridan thinks Alabama QB AJ McCarron has a shot at the Heisman Trophy

McCarron, a Mobile native, earned offensive MVP honors in the national championship after he completed 23-of-34 passes for 234 yards. He won a quarterback battle against Phillip Sims, and started all of Alabama's 13 games throwing for 2,634 yards, 16 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron was given 30:1 odds Tuesday to win the 2012 Heisman Trophy, set by famed odds maker Danny Sheridan.

Sheridan, a Mobile native and Alabama alumnus, Tweeted his early Heisman odds for public consumption.

In his first Tweet, he wrote, "(Will) be sending out my early Heisman odds, which take into consideration: Politics of voters, playing on a good team, & School's PR Machine."

McCarron helped guide the Crimson Tide to its 14 national championship capped by a 21-0 win over LSU on Jan. 9 in the BCS National Championship Game.

I don't ever see it happening! With the way we run our system, no QB of ours will ever put up the HUGE numbers of 3500+ yds, 30-35 TDs. Sheridan must be getting desperate for some attention.

He better get cranking then!! He will have to chunk it a bunch to catch JPW.

It's not unrealistic. In fact, may be closer to reality than some realize.

AJ threw for 2400 this past season.

He's currently a little over 5100 yards short of JPW's career numbers.

He'll need a around 2570 per year the next two years to tie JP.

Just looking at next season vs this past one. Do you think that CNS will run the ball as much against Michigan as he did against Penn State? You'll have to admit, we toned down our offense out of respect for JoePa. I see no reason we'll do the same against Michigan. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Saban does let if fly against the Wolverines: ala bowl game against Michigan State two years ago.

With the receiving corp we have (especially those that didn't see the field this year), I think we will let it fly! Also factored in are next year's running backs. I think circle button starts, but will be limited due to turf toe. He could probably play through it, but it is not worth risking a career. Dee Hart will be the key. From there I see Yeldon, followed by Jalston Fowler. It just looks like this year is set up to lean a little more on the passing game, IMO. We dang sure have the talent to do it. If our receivers have stayed in the weight room this past year, we should have one or two that will leave us asking "Where were these guys last year and why did they not play?" I know two off of the top of my head.

Now that you throw the numbers out Terry, you make a more convincing case. I can't help but think of the number of attempts that JPW and think that we won't see it aired out that much. I too think that he will try to bash and batter the ego of Michigan come Sept.

I thought you might have been thinking about attempts vs yardage. Shula's attempts (play calls) vs what we'll have with Nuss? Two different philosophies.

I'd have to look, but it would be interesting to see yards per completion comparisons between the two. That comparison really can't be made looking at numbers alone. We have three yard passes that end up with 15 yard gained. Shula was more of a 12 yard route with 15 gained.

YAC is the biggest difference between the two QB's.

I dont think he will come close to the Heisman for the reasons already stated.... just not our style of offense. As for breaking the records, I think he will end up with them when his career is said and done. We have been airing it out more the last couple of years and I see no reason we wont continue that trend. His number will be solid but not Heisman like numbers.... 2500 yards, 25 TDs, 67%, and just a handful of TOs.

But remember, he will likely be playing 3 quarters in most games with Sims and Ely (and Morris i hope) taking mop up duty after whoever is in front of us is completely defeated and worn down.

Either way, I'm really excited about this young, deep, and talented WR group. Carter, White, Bell, Shinn, Norwood, Vogler, Jones, Williams, Cooper, Black, Harrison Jones, Dee Hart catching balls out of the backfield, Eddy Williams, it just goes on and on and on and on... and they will be open to because our RBs are a 4-deep threat

Im rambling I know, but damn i just love what we have going on in Tuscaloosa these days.

Bah. He was a back-up redshirt. No meant one he contributed to!

In a sense, you're right. He emulated Colt in the practices before the Texas game and with Colt leaving the game so early all that work on the scout team was in vain! Geez, what was I thinking!!!
