So, he understands the offense, he's been in the system longer, he helps the team play better, and he shows command at the position. He basically has all the qualities to be a starting QB at 'Bama, but Coker, despite his struggles, is still in the race?

I hope Saban is using this as a way to keep Wisconsin guessing.

Some teams want the chest ... Bama wants the bangs. Who you got?

So Suttles said that Coker had the respect of the locker room and anyone saying otherwise is reaching for a story. He also said that Coker made the best 5 passes in the scrimmage. Why did none of you at the scrimmage provide us with that info? He also said Bateman played against the 2s and 3s for most of his snaps so that tells me he's not in the competition. Why did you guys at the scrimmage make it sound like he was a world beater on Saturday? I appreciate the info as much as the next guy but I wish we could get more facts and not your opinions when you are stating who's playing better. I guess that's what I get for being a cheap ass and not springing for the paid sites.

The reason why Saban never gives younger QBs game experience is because our offense is usually always a work in progress. A blowout is an opportunity for our first team offense to get more experience. That's how I've always seen it anyway

The starting QB against Wisconsin will be......

Cotis "Coyote" Nunley.

OK, I challenge the board to throw out a more obscure, forgotten name than that Bama QB blast-from-the-past.

Suttles wasn't there

Morris took 85 % of the snaps with the 1st team, that right there should have told you not everyone played with the ones.

Coker does not control locker room, 2 player sources say it's split leaning Morris, both are leaders. Not saying Coker isn't liked he is.

Coker Imo and that of a great many others had a below average scrimmage and anyone saying otherwise is reaching. He didn't even have 3 good passes period let alone the best. He had 2 TD both on the goal line. One was to Mullaney who he basically hit in the ankle and Mullaney did a falling awesome catch. The best pass was Morris to Foster for a 97 yard TD. Easy kinda like the best hit was eddie Jackson on Harris.

Why didn't we report that you ask, because it didn't actually happen man lol.

Believe what you want but those are the facts. There is still time for whomever to emerge in this race. Coker might still play hell even start. Kiffin was heard saying today " the qbs are so bad we may run every play".

That wouldn't be my choice to substantiate something I'd said. :poke2: The headline running on CBS Sports says, "Alex Morris now leading..."

In the article, Kalland sources AL.com's Matt Zenitz.

Here's what Matt said:
Overlooked by most, if not all, outside Alabama's program entering fall camp, redshirt junior Alec Morris may be the most likely of the Tide's quarterbacks to start against Wisconsin.

"May be" ... "the most likely." He doesn't know.

I appreciate the info as much as the next guy but I wish we could get more facts and not your opinions when you are stating who's playing better.
'
I get your point. It's all someone's opinion. There are three and four different takes in the same player around here ... likely in this thread.

Time vets all. Just read the opinions today, remember them tomorrow.

Also Suttles says that BOL says this:

"

But just 11 days before the Tide kicks off in Dallas, that is exactly the situation that has developed as sources close to the Tide program have indicated that if Alabama played tomorrow, the starter would be redshirt junior signal-caller Alec Morris. Morris did not arrive at the Capstone with the hype of a Jacob Coker or David Cornwell and only held offers from Wake Forest and North Texas before he pledged to the Tide, but his consistent play, high football IQ and increasing mastery of the "game manager" aspect of the position has Morris in the lead to start for Alabama.

Simply put, Morris has made the fewest mistakes and been the most consistent option among the candidates to start. Coker is not out of the picture at this juncture as a foot injury suffered earlier in camp set him back a few days, but he has failed to grab the starting job to this point and run away with it while Morris' steady, consistent approach has continued to win over the coaching staff.

Five-star freshman Blake Barnett, per sources, has progressed to the point where Alabama does not plan to redshirt him, and the plan is to get him snaps this season so he can be ready to compete for the starting role next year. The Tide staff is sky-high on Barnett's upside and quick acclimation to the playbook but Morris' experience has been too much to overcome for Barnett to step in and challenge thus far."

My point being it is all over the place.

Our QB play this Fall may not set school records, BUT it could possibly get us to the National Title! We don't have to have a 4,000 yd passer or 30+ TDs from the position to win it all. CNS and the staff KNOW THIS! All we have to have at the position is someone that will protect the ball. I would take GMac numbers from '09 or AJ from '11 to go with this defense and JK Scott as our punter and be very happy with the end result.

Amen brotha. JUST WIN, BABY.

Not sure where Suttles received his info- I attended the scrimmage on Saturday. Not only did Coker not have the 5 BEST passes of the scrimmage, he did not have 5 TOTAL good passes.
Bateman's first 3-4 possessions were with the 2's on O against the 1's on D. His first drive of the scrimmage he directed a 50 yd or so drive before the drive stalled. Agree he did throw several check downs as has been reported. He was the only QB of the scrimmage that had ANY success against the 1's on D.
Morris and Coker ran the 1 offense early in the scrimmage- against the 2's on D. Neither had much success. Agree that Morris understands the Offense.
He is very limited athletically in my opinion. Also in my opinion, Morris reminds me of Jarret Lee- former LSU QB- as far as ability is concerned.
Some may say "he guided the team to BCS title game behind a great D". Which is a fact. However, the college game is not the same as 4 years ago.
As great as this D may be, and I think this D will be fantastic, there will be teams that we face that will score points. In 2015, teams will need a QB that can make plays down the stretch of tight games that decide W/L. Can Morris make those plays against Ole Miss D when they wholeheartedly commit to stop our running game?? I hope so.
Again, in my opinion Bateman had the best scrimmage Saturday. His name is not being mentioned much, which tells me he may not be performing well in practice? I have no insider sources. Maybe Boz can elaborate. We'll see in 10 days. Roll Tide

Just to go along with my earlier post. Here are the stats for GMac in '09 and AJ in '11.

GP Effic Cmp-Att-Int Pct Yards TD Long Avg/G
AJ McCarron 13 147.3 219-328-5 66.8 2634 16 69 202.6

@Atticus as I posted above you and I agree on most everything we saw. Bateman was probably alittle better athletic wise, Morris seemed solid in the fact he did his job and left the field, nothing fancy.

Yesterday the staff more specifically Saban trolled the media viewing period with crazy orders for the Qb's before moving them to two lines again. Let me make a blanket statement. No one knows except for Saban and Kiffin right now.

I will say this about Alec Morris, and this is in response to what Atticus said about can he pass on Ole Miss when they come down on us ( and they will try). He is a smart kid, he knows the offense, and if our receivers can get open I know he can deliver. I will say the same thing about Bateman after what I saw Sat. With Coker I cannot and will not say that he could make that clutch throw to win us a game. Take everything away, foot work, pocket presence, all of it. One gleaming thing stands out above all else. He does not release the ball on time, ever. He is late on almost everything. If you have a great secondary (LSU, Ole Miss) and that throw has to be perfect. I dunno if he can do it.

Again I will support whoever the staff put out there, I know for a fact they will be a on short leash and more than 1 will play at the first sign of issues.
