There are few truths in an uncertain world, but here's one: There is no chance in hell that Coker is our starting QB. None. Accept and move on.

Would you like to make a wager? I assure you Coker will be competing for the starting job at worst during the first game.

You're hearing the exact opposite of what has happened.

Well Coach Saban has publicly stating otherwise. They are giving him every opportunity possible to win this job. I don't think I've seen Saban coddle a player like this. Anyone else performing like that and they're scout team, plain and simple. Look at Lord Cornwallis. I'm willing to throw money on it we'll see Coker in the first half of the first game, most likely starting, unless he's hurt.

I'm hearing Morris starts, if he struggles they go to the next guy and so on. As of now.

What I've expected since the beginning of camp. We haven't decided on a QB, they'll get a shot in the first game or two. Similar to a few years ago. Not sure why fans would expect something different.

Not to stir any pot at all. Just want you to have it all.

@Marq_Burnett: Saban on Alec Morris: He understands the offense & helps others play better. He's showing command at the position.

No man, I completely understand and I would rather Morris start over Coker. Just hearing he doesn't have the locker won over. And I heard that's how Blake did it last year, along with knowing the playbook.

I'm hearing he has the respect of the team, kind of like a grandpa. Morris is a master of our offense btw, see my staff blurb on Morris.

Update :

Tide staff do not plan to redshirt Barnett. He has progressed to the point where they want to get him snaps to compete next year for starter. Morris experience with the offense was just alittle to much for him to overcome.

I am shocked to hear that. If BB didn't win the job, why waste the year? Especially if he isn't the backup. If they are truly planning to play him, they must think he will eventually take over--this season. I guess this season is the outlier for Saban getting a backup meaningful reps?

My guess is that if he is near as good as we are hearing he will be, or is hoped to be, then he won't be hear longer than 3 years anyway. Might as well have him take a few snaps here and there so he can experience SEC speed, big lights, 101k roaring, Saban yelling on the sidelines, etc. so that he isn't a deer in headlights when his time does come. He will be in contention next year, so might as well have some snaps under his belt.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I am COMPLETELY ONBOARD with that idea. I've just never seen CNS do that at Alabama. Frustratingly, at times.

I understand... and it is frustrating not seeing a young guy get some reps when the game is out of reach. Maybe Saban is tired of having to deal with the consequences of that after last year and again this year, and that's why the change? Just spit balling, but like most people, I'm glad to see it and hope to see BB get some reps.

Also have to remember we will be down to 3 QBs next year- Morris, Bateman, and Barnett (assuming Cornwell transfers as I fully expect now... probably to Okie Lite). Hurt will RS most likely, so having 3 guys with game experience and still fighting for the spot would be a much appreciate change from last year and this year.

Morris winning the start in week 1 doesn't mean Barnett won't play quite a bit this season.. If he's not red shirting, I'm sure he's going to play more than just a few snaps.

Like Boz said, the leash will be short. Barnett could very well end up our QB in November

So, he understands the offense, he's been in the system longer, he helps the team play better, and he shows command at the position. He basically has all the qualities to be a starting QB at 'Bama, but Coker, despite his struggles, is still in the race?

I hope Saban is using this as a way to keep Wisconsin guessing.
