šŸˆ Falcons making contingency plans on new stadium if construction is delayed

Ha ha, would love it if they pushed Georgia to play Appalachian State in Boone, while we got a home game in Athens. Never happen, and I would rather play at the new Dome, but I love speculating that to my Georgia friends.

OT, or sort of related, I noticed the sale of Turner Field (and that complex/property) is pretty much a done deal with Georgia Southern. I recall looking over their proposal a year or two ago and it looks like they are going to have a heck of a sports complex.

Shame they couldn't figure out how to give the Georgia Dome to Georgia State and relocate nearby.
IF they did that a bad parking/tailgating area is going to be that much worse. As it stands already, it's not very "fan friendly" when it comes to tailgating, etc.

I've heard two reports both containing a parking deck for the new stadium. One suggested there might be an outdoor area for fans to congregate as well. With 252's familiarity with the ATL Sports Council, he probably knows exactly what they are planning on doing with that area.

Having some family in College Park I even tried coming in on MARTA to get in and out of that area and do a little mingling. I hope they figure something out that's better than past setups.

The ASC changed direction from a college sports focus group to a pro sports focus group in 2010 when Gary Stokan resigned as president and became president of the Chick-Fil-A Bowl. That was my last year as a member of the ASC also, so all I know of what they are doing is what I read or hear about around here. I heard about the contingency plans yesterday on 680 The Fan, so I found the written report and posted it.

Last scheduled event in the Georgia Dome set for March 2017. Demolition starts in 2018. If they don't know whether or not it will open by March 2017, they need a new construction foreman.

"The Georgia Dome won't be an option for the 2017 preseason because the last event there will take place in March, with the first phase of demolition scheduled next summer."

Next summer is 2017. M-B Stadium is scheduled to open June 1, 2017.

They should know by March 2017 if the new stadium will be ready. If it's not going to be ready, they can delay the demolition of the Georgia Dome. Georgia Tech's stadium is too small. UGA isn't convenient and doesn't have the security needed for NFL preseason games. Worst case scenario is the Falcons play their preseason games away.
