🏀 Expectations for 2013-2014 Season

Oh, and I forgot to put my expectations for next season.

With who is coming back plus new additions, I see this being a very good team next year as long as everyone stays healthy for the most part. In my opnion, this years team is very possibly a Sweet 16 team if Carl Engstrom is still in the playing rotation. As I said before, I think losing him hurt this team a lot more than some realise.

One other expectation I have for next year. I look for Obasahan to have a really big year. From what I saw of him this season, he has the potential to be one of the best we've seen on the court for Bama in a while.

Rumblings of Minnesota going after Grant...

I'll be shocked if they go after a big named coach and I'm thinking they go after a cheaper coach for a few years of which Grant isn't. CAG and Minn's AD worked together at VCU.

Minnesota has problems not to mention expectations that are unrealistic. They fire a coach who was making $2m a year, they now owe him $2.5m and their profit is ZERO the last few years...

Look at their financials http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/spor...ollege-athletics-finances-database/54955804/1

Go big or go home. If Bama can get a big, big name, a homerun hire, in a couple of years maybe we can think of Final Fours. If the Tide hires another midmajor guy, we'll make the NIT every other year or be out in the first round when dancing.

After considering things for a few days, I think four years is enough to solidify a judgement on how well a coach can recruit. Cal came in and basically won the tourney at Kentucky with recruiting. Either recruits are going to come to Bama or they're not. No coach is going to "coach up" a champion team in a few years. The game has changed too much for that. And there is no way a recruit is going to come to play at Bama for the school's rich history IN BASKETBALL. It's nonexistent. Want a chance to win it all or a chance to lose in the final of the NIT? Come on.

So, hire someone who can win it all, or pay someone $250,000 and cut your losses. If the school doesn't want to hire a proven winner, be honest and just say, hey, we don't really think we can win in basketball. Why pay a million plus knowing you can't win? Seriously. What's the point?

Furthermore, I think the resume should include a championship. Not a final four. Not an NIT championship. An NCAA championship as a head coach. Not an assistant. You did what you were told, and that was all. That ought to narrow the field.

Pay that coach enough and he'll come to Bama. Money talks. Either the school is serious about winning or it isn't.

This conversation could have been had after next year. Grant's not going anywhere. Why would they want him at Minnesota? Coaches with his resume are a dime-a-dozen.

Grant seems like a genuinely good guy. I like how he almost always maintains his composure. I can only remember one time when he really, really blew a gasket and went off on an official. Not many coaches are as in control as he is on the sideline. He apparently has done what he was supposed to do in regards to recruiting within the rules. I just don't think he will win in a big way. By that I mean he'll not take Bama to the Final Four. I hope he proves me wrong. If he doesn't go to Minnesota, I'll still pull for Bama like I always do.

If he gets cut loose after next year, he'll land on his feet somewhere. He's already made more money than most of us will ever make in our lives, so he should be okay financially.

My expectations are simple; a NCAA berth and at least one win in the tourney. There is no reason to expect anything less with the players we have coming back. Engstrom should be healthy and Gueye was given valuable playing time bc of the injury. Bottom line is we need to get some points in the paint on a consistent basis that will give the outsie players open looks.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "we shouldn't expect anything less with the players coming back."..:chat_headscratch:
