🏈 Ex-FSU coach Bowden wants wins restored

Back in September, legendary Florida State coach Bobby Bowden went on record with the David Glenn Show out of North Carolina to voice his support for Joe Paterno and speak against the NCAA's decision to vacate wins from both coaches.

"If I had my choice, I'd like for them to give my 12 games back, and give Joe his 100 games back," Bowden said at the time.

Now that the NCAA has restored Joe Paterno's vacated victories, the late Penn State coach has returned to the top spot on the all-time wins list. Even if the NCAA restored Bowden's wins, Paterno would have the top spot. Bobby Bowden is currently credited with 377 wins, while Bowden is back at his previous number of 409.

Still, out of principle, Bowden maintains his stance regarding the NCAA and both situations.

In the wake of the Penn State news, Bowden told the Orlando Sentinel's Mike Bianchi that he's "all for" the restoration of the PSU and FSU wins vacated by the NCAA.

"That was disappointing to me," Bowden said. "The NCAA has been very inconsistent about how they take away victories. It's not like we were trying to cover up anything. We did everything in our dad-gum power to get to the bottom of the situation."

Bowden has a point. Florida State self-reported violations to the NCAA during the academic scandal at the end of his tenure. However, the NCAA's case against Penn State is already unprecedented in so many ways that it feels like a stretch to draw too much of a connection beyond the legendary coaches that tied to each program. Also, the PSU wins were returned as a lawsuit settlement, whereas there is no pending suit against the NCAA by FSU.

Recall how forth coming a certain team was and was praised for it during the presser that announced crippling penalties and the threat of a "smoking gun". Like to see those wins restored.
