On offense this team is a one man show. QB Jacob Huesman is the head coach’s son and leads the team is both rushing and passing. He has been hampered by a knee injury the past few weeks, however. His Dad/Coach said today that he will probably play but keep in mind that in the grand scheme of things, this game doesn’t matter that much to UTC. The playoffs are more important to them so even though coach Huesman is saying the right thing, don’t be surprised if his son stays on the sidelines this weekend. That will be a bit of a shame for Alabama as Huesman is very similar in many respects to AU’s Nick Marshall and UTC runs a similar scheme, so facing him could have been a good tune up for the Tide defense.

Their back-up QB is Terrell Robinson who traditionally plays WR for the Mocs and is the team’s fourth leading receiver. If he ends up getting the start, the good news for UTC will be that he has completed 100% of his passes this season. The bad news is that he has only attempted four passes all year. Robinson will also be without leading rusher Keon Williams and starting wide-out Tommy Hudson, who will both miss the game with injuries.

UTC will rely on back-up running back Marquis Green to carry a heavy burden in this game. Green has been a third down specialist for most of the season and he is a great receiver out of the backfield and a very good blocker. When Robinson needs to pass, he will usually be looking for Faysal Shafaat who leads the team in receiving with 308 yards and six touchdowns. However, expect most plays to be Robinson and Green running the ball from the spread option.

Defense has not been a strength for UTC in most games this season. They have struggled to stop most teams they faced whether their strength was the run or the pass. UTC is led by two very talented defenders. Safety and leading tackler Wes Dothard is excellent at stopping the run and blitzing. He has 81 total tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss this season. Junior Defensive end Davis Tull is thought to be the Mocs top NFL prospect this season. Tull has 9 sacks this season and has broken UTC’s career sack record. With nothing left to prove, it’s believed Tull will skip his senior season and enter the NFL draft this off season. Tull has tackled opponents behind the line of scrimmage a total of 15 times this season and forced four fumbles. Of course, Tull’s opportunities will be extremely limited this weekend if Cyrus Kouandjio swats him in his fool head on every play.

UTC tries to avoid kicking field goals and have only attempted nine this season connecting on only five. Kicker Nick Pollard is a perfect 43/43 on extra points, however and is an excellent punter averaging over 40 yards per kick.

UTC does an excellent job protecting the football and has only turned it over 10 times this season while forcing 17 turnovers by their opponents.

Good evaluation, RollTideRandy.

Have they already clinched a playoff spot?
