šŸˆ ESPN reports on Ohio State--a story that hasn't gone quietly in the good night.

McMurphy said he had more info that he wasn't releasing, what that is who knows...

The timing of this seems really convenient for him, his contract with ESPN expiring this month and he's going to be looking for a job as he said he's been using Twitter/Facebook to stay relevant so that it makes it easier for him to land a job in August 2018.

Not true. McMurphy has been laid off since April from ESPN. He also had a very restrictive non-compete clause .

The implication that there was anything convenient for him implies a lack of credibility for the story, which couldn't be further from the truth and is just a dumb thing to imply.

What's not true?? Not sure how anything I said makes the story any less credible. Explain please :-)

My point, he was laid off in April 2017, had a 18 month no-compete clause, of which reporting via twitter/facebook doesn't violate. His no compete clause ends this month. And yes, it's very convenient the story releases weeks prior to his contract with ESPN expiring allowing him to work wherever. Maybe it was just perfect timing...

I think it's silly to believe he wasn't thinking about the timing of the article. It keeps him in the game at the right time...

Are you saying he kept an ace up his sleeve and decided to bust the news when he felt it could help his career? That's what I keep reading when you keep saying convenience and talk about his timing. Almost like you're saying he knew about it years ago and when he needs a story, bam, there it is.

What I failed to read...which is what @NickelDoubleDog is saying, in December 2017, Brett signed a contract with Stadium that starts after his contract with ESPN expires. So definitely coincidence vs convenient...that's my bad.

No hard feelings buddy and I hope you don't harbor any. I have grown weary of the Ohio St fans attacking Mcmurphy and Courtney Smith and I shouldn't let that cause me to have a short fuse with others.

No, just saying it's interesting to me that the story released just prior to his contract being up with ESPN. But if he signed with Stadium in Dec 2017...then it doesn't really matter. By his own account, he found out about it 3-4 weeks ago and started digging. I don't think he ever dreamed it would turn out the way it did.

Not hard feelings at all. Poor choice of words on my part h/t

This guy needs to immediately contact THE OSU so they can conclude their investigation and Coach Meyer can go back to work. Meyer obviously did not know anything about what did not happen. On a more serious note I too recognized some of the probable miss statements in the reporting but Meyer did say ā€œI know nothingā€ when asked about 2015 events. He of course miss spoke.

Doesn't explain why Zack Smith was still employed by the University of Ohio State from 2015-2018. Also makes you wonder why Urban Meyer apologized for not answering the questions correctly yesterday. He didn't say he didn't understand the questions, or that they were misleading, or void of fact, he stated he was unprepared to answer them.

Lawyers.

Meyer said he knew nothing. Said McMurphy made up the story.

Ohio St out him in paid leave.

then Meyer retracted his lies, said he knew everything. He said he was unprepared to answer personnel questions, seconds after he answered sensitive personnel questions about how he reported things correctly after the 2009 arrest.

so if he did nothing wrong, why was he put on admin leave? Where's the proof? Where's Gene Smith and his comments?

"In 2 weeks, we determined that CUM followed protocol and proper procedure. Meanwhile, we also have determined that AD Gene Smith failed to investigate the matter as required by law. AD Gene Smith will be resigning effective immediately. We appreciate everything that Gene has done in the past, but this matter when dealing with domestic violence can't be brushed aside. We, the committee, have also determined that the police department dropped the ball in this matter as well. We will be forwarding all of our findings to the state police. Thank you for your time and patience in dealing with such a important matter. Go Buckeyes!!"

JMO but the real story might be in how those within the Family of this man and woman wanted this deal closed. He sure appears the wife wasn't in favor of what the others wanted. It's possible that Urban wasn't up to speed in what the latest plan was from that group as far as the media.

I agree I think OSU finds a way like this to keep Meyer as bad as I hate it and Smith is most likely gone.

Ohio State fan: "In support of Urban Meyer I'll make this sign and go to the support rally."

These signs and the others that were there really make this SUPER embarrassing for tOSU and all of college football. With the #MeToo movement going on, no way in hell would I have carried that sign!!!! That comes off as being pretty calloused torward people that have suffered from abuse.

@UAgrad93, I caught a few minutes of Get Up! on ESPN this morning...they were takin' those fans to task over the Bama sign, nothing about the #metoo sign.

I saw how they deflected everything from domestic violence and enabling abusers to Alabama, the SEC, Finebaum, and ESPN. "It's their fault!!!! Why can't they just leave us alone? BAMA plays a weak ass schedule. Finebaum sucks! The SEC is overrrated!!! Damn you ESPN!!"
Heaven forbid they take off their blinders and look at their surroundings and all that is going on!!!! No moral compass at all up in Columbus!!! Look at the situation as a damn human being and not a damn fan of a school or team!!!

It's intriguing that it's not limited to fans of Ohio State. The post on page three pasting the tweet from Jerry Hinnen--an unabashed Auburn fan--trying to link this story back to Saban and Taylor isn't as much of a stretch as pointing to schedules but it does go to show where his priorities lay.
