Does anyone know if this game is going to be on Pay Per View or will it be on a local channel here in the Birmingham area?

I was going to order it because my daughter is sick and I won't be able to make it in person, but then I saw this:

http://assets.espn.go.com/gameplan/images/2008/blackout/tulane_at_alabama.jpg

saying that it would be televised like normal?

Kind of confused.

No, it's listed as PPV with the University.

Hell, I'm not in your boat but I'm confused at that as well.

We have Direct TV and GamePlan and will be getting the game.

Yeah, that is what I am wondering about. I have Charter and don't have Gameplan.

We have Dish satellite. It's on PPV for $29.95. I think in B'ham it's blacked out, so PPV is the only way to go for TV.

Thanks, Terry. I suppose I will go ahead and just call Charter and see what they say about PPV and the game. I guess they won't charge me for PPV if it's being televised locally in my area, would they? Okay, forget I said that, of course they would.

I was casually reading this while flipping through TV channels going to College Football live...when I saw the bolded line I had to do a double take.

Well, I just went through the whole PPV Menu Guide and there isn't a 'Bama vs. Tulane option listed, so I guess I will actually have to call them and see what's up.

My only guess would be that you order it like a gameplan game, but it will come on a random channel as CTSN.

In other words the whole process is the same but we are blacked out in the state on gameplan since local carriers are selling it on PPV. OOS gets gameplan because ESPN bought the rights from CTSN/local carries since they arent selling it on PPV OOS.

Thats my guess.

On Direct TV they have 2 PPV one is for ESPN for $21.95 the local it $29.95. What is the difference between an ESPN PPV and a local provider PPV? Besides the ESPN anti Bama biased commentary and the $8 what's the difference?

Thanks to everyone for helping. Here is what Charter told me while I was ordering the game.

It was on ESPN Gameplan and I would have to order Gameplan for 20 something dollars a month and have it added to my already pretty large package that I pay 128.00 dollars a month for. She said it wasn't on PPV, but only on Gameplan.

I balked at that. You know, I wasn't so sure about that because I don't know if there are that many games that I would be interested in seeing every week for an extra 20 something a month. Not only that, the games I really, really care about, I go to.

The Charter technician started on this long roll about how there were going to be 12 games on tomorrow on Gameplan and started to name off all of them. I stopped her and said that wasn't really necessary because I wasn't seriously considering adding Gameplan.

At that point she said, "you can order Gameplan and then the next day, after the game is over, call up and cancel it. Don't tell anyone I told you that".

And there you go. I didn't like the idea of that at all. You know, who knows how long it would take to get that monthly charge taken off my bill.

I said no thanks, I guess I just won't be able to watch it. I said, are you sure it isn't on PPV?

This is when she said, "hang on, let me check again". Well, sure enough, she came back and said that it actually was on PPV and I could get it for a charge of 24.95.

That is what I did. It's on channel 861 at 6:00pm.

Glad you told them no on the GamePlan because there's a clause that says you can't cancel once the season starts. Now that's through DirecTV and not Charter, but before I confirmed my GamePlan subscription, I had to agree to that. Obviously, being in the land of the pigs, I happily agreed. I'm sick of watching AR and OU all the time!!!

You're welcome, CtrlAltie. Hope your daughter feels better soon.

That's sounds a lot like your ESPN360 conversation...geez.

Yes, it does.

That was a hell of a conversation too. The Charter representative tried her best to convince me that you had to order ESPN360 through ESPN, you had to pay them, and then you could have access to it through your Charter cable connection.

False.

She will, it is no big deal. She is 5 years old and just has a virus of some type. It is just bad enough to where the wife doesn't want to off-load her on any relatives while we go to the game. I gave the tickets to my sister and brother-in-law.

I would have just went with my b-i-l but she was already kicking in the guilt act on me and saying:

"You go, go ahead, just leave us here alone, we will be okay", that type of stuff.
