Good article - kinda odd...... not really complete, just some pieces of Gold's life, but interesting.

We used to go to the Birmingham Bulls' games, and between the periods, we (kids) would go over to where Gold was broadcasting, summarizing the game and filling up space on air until the next period. Way before getting involved in UA broadcasts. We'd make faces and irritate him, but it was all good fun, and he was a good sport.

Nice to see the him talking about Mel Allen but always wondered if that had something to do with him ending up as part of the Bama broadcast.

Besides the Bulls, he had what was one of the first, if not the first, sports call in shows in the Birmingham area. I have been at the Talladega races and seen him in his high perch on one of the turns. He also does Titans games.

I used to dislike his football play by play because he kept messing up yardage, down and distance situations but either he has gotten better or I have gotten more tolerant. Clearly he has developed a great love for the Tide.
