Do you think we'll lose a QB or we need to add a fourth?
It's a weird room right now, Tim. Russell is a special athlete. He's been making plays that have been compared to Tua all spring. If I've been told that once, I've been told that a dozen times.

Here's the thing with Mack. He can make all the throws you want out of a QB. The kid sees the field. But, he's been off an on again when it comes to making the right choice. Grubb's job with him is decision making.

Yesterday didn't show anything. I believe it was purposeful to hold the room together. It's Ty, and then the question is who comes out at #2.

In my opinion, you always want four. I don't think they necessarily need another, but odds and averages...

In another opinion, I think they have some leeway here. That WR room is good.

I don't like the look of the TE group, today.

...at the risk of me starting to ramble...

Losing Dippre will be bigger than folks realize. He was a solid option for us.

They don't anticipate losing anyone, but anything can happen... all 3 will be tampered with to some extent. But I know they want 4 scholarshipped guys on the roster IF they can find the right guy... someone who will come in, preferably with some game experience that will accept a backup role. Probably someone with a year remaining or some such (similar to how Saban wanted to bring in Gardner Minshew from ECU before he decided to take a starting spot (under Leach at WSU).

If Russell is showing some of those Tua moments now, I could see a ‘17 type season with Russell your #2 guy. I remember watching Tua in that second scrimmage his freshman year and I told anyone that would listen that “Tua could spin it and was special!”

Yeah hard to know how they will ultimately develop. As you know so much goes into greatness at that position. More than physical skills. You have to be the full package including intangibles. On top of physical skills your mindset has to be differetn (Tua, Young. Hurts etc...).

From the guys that I trust watching practices...yeah. It's there.

If we have a “Tua” developing at QB…the window is atleast open for the next 3-4 years.

Never know when someone might transfer, especially with the competition the way it is on the roster, but hearing what y’all are saying, Ty better hope he doesn’t end up injured at some point this season lol

Just my opinion here based on stuff I've heard, Simpson is our best option... but when he gets into an actual game, there's some unknowns about how well he will perform. That applies to anyone though and it's not meant to downplay his potential. The staff is happy with where he's at right now. Re: Russell... he is going to be really good in time, but like Bryce Young, he would really benefit from a year in a back up role. Will he eventually be as good as Tua and/or Bryce? Time will tell. He has the tools, but there's a lot that goes into it, all the way down to their surrounding casts.

I HATE comparisons. But.

Ty is Geno Torrentta. When he gets hot....

Bringing this thread back from the depths for the forthcoming spring roster updates... the spring transfer portal window is April 16-25. There will be movement, both in and out. As far as Bama's needs right now... keep an eye on QB (for depth purposes), OL (especially someone that can play tackle), TE, and DL. A punter/kicker guy is always a possibility too.

A couple worth keeping an eye on...

It just doesn't sit right.

Ummm, WHAT??!?!? Is that legal? I don't know a lot of the agent bylaws and stuff but that seems like it might be a type of conflict unless it's just the wild west and they are making a smart move to represent kids while being able to directly generate interest with their tweets/articles

Read about this transfer yesterday. Come on down!

FWIW, it wasn’t a prediction… was just told he’s being looked at closely. Others are too, but those were 3 that were mentioned. The staff is active though trying to plug some holes and maybe upgrade a spot or two.

There are no real agent rules for CFB, it all unregulated. It's nothing like the NFL. Call yourself an "agent", and you're and agent. There are some legitimate agents, well-meaning ones, but as a whole... not many. Most are just parasites.
