UPDATE:

We reported yesterday (below) there were rumors flying around of a physical altercation between Coach Clay Helton and Freshman guard EJ Price. Clay Helton has come out and denied these rumors saying, “I’d be dead” if it were true. He did confirm that E.J Price is transferring though.

The same USC message boards that these rumors came from have even more juicy details and it doesn’t sound like the USC problems end with EJ Price. Apparently coaches were arguing and assigning blame in front of players on the plane back from Stanford. The fractures in the team are so bad that Offensive Coordinator Tee Martin apparently busted into a players only meeting to admonish them and assign blame for the loss. It looks like things will get worse for USC before they get better.

According to Reddit and USC message board FightOn247 something fishy is going on behind the scenes with the USC football team. And by fishy we mean that freshman OG EJ Price may have punched coach Clay Helton in the face, precipitating a possible mass exodus of transfers from the school. Rumored to be among those considering a transfer are OL Chuma Edoga, recently demoted QB Max Browne, and WR/CB Keyshawn Pie Young. CB Adoree Jackson and WR JuJu Smith are also widely expected to declare for the NFL draft as soon as the season is over.

Apparently Clay Helton has offered to sign the transfer papers of any player who wants to leave. This is all over USC message boards, but no “legitimate” news source has run with it yet.

Expect that to change in the next day as reports get more and more detailed, but it certainly sounds like something is going on. Helton is expected to address it in some manner either this afternoon or tomorrow.

So far southern cal is flunking their coaching auditions. Clay Helton was not ready for prime time and the hire seemed to be lazy and more for convenience, perhaps to just keep the staff together. As Bama knows, it's difficult to find great coaches who want to coach through the dark times of sanctions. But when they hired Helton they were through the penalties and should have taken their time and got it right.

USCw has made some very strange hires to say the least. They hire Pat Haden to replace Mike Garrett, 2 USC boys. They then hire Lynn Swann to replace Haden. Seems PRETTY DAMN LAZY to me. These guys had no clue about how to run an athletic department!! Carroll leaves before sanctions hit, so Kiffin is hired. Haden then leaves Lane at the tarmac, so Haden turns to the Great White Sark to rejuvenate the Carroll mystique. Sark is in the club getting tipsy, booster meetings, practice, sidelines, etc. so Haden gives him a LOA and then fires his azz! Then he names Helton interim HC and promptly takes the interim from his title and names him the HC. Saban then proceeds to #PROCESS USCw in the opener much like he did so many coaches in '08! Very lazy and confusing hires!!

I think the last two coaches that USCw had was Coach McKay and Coach Robinson. Maybe Carroll but his the one that put them in hot water wasn't he? He left them holding the bag so to speck.
All I know is that we had some good games with those two coaches.

They've had at least a half of a dozen head coaches since Robinson retired ... some with the interim tag, but still.

Hackett, Sark, Kiff, Ogeron, Helton, and Carroll if my memory serves.

It's been there for years, Rickey. The difference with Hugh is they are running balls to the walls now ... a few years ago they were a bit more "secretive."

This. I've lived over here for 25 years. Since the days of Billy Brewer there has been a pipeline for free tires, loaner cars and cash. Freeze started pursuing bigger recruits and spending more money, that is the difference.
