Bless his heart, they seemed to stay true to their upbringing. They had a brief bonanza, entertaining to watch. One of my wife's favorite songs is Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker (I prefer the Old Crow Medicine Show original), and Rucker's video of different Robertsons driving classic Chevy trucks is pretty neat.

I have to admire a man who recognizes and admits his mistakes, learns from them and grows, and tries to share his story with others in what seems an honest effort to help.

Other than seeing a commercial occasionally I had no idea who he was. I didn't watch any of the show. Thinking back I want to say it was airing at the same time that show about those folks catching 'Gators in the Bayou was on. I didn't watch either. Just not my cup of tea.

Until ...

I had a brief gig with IHG. It just so happened that my birthday fell in the middle of this 10 week project. A few weeks prior I was talking with the lady I reported to and she had asked something that led me to mention we were preparing for an August camping trip in Santee.

My birthday rolls around and she gives me a Duck Dynasty coffee cup. (Enter my true self.)

"Why would you assume I'd support, or be a fan, of a group like this?" Followed by, "I'm Jehovah's Witness, I don't celebrate birthday's." OH DAMN...did that send her in a guilt ridden spiral.

"IT WAS A JOKE!!!"

I watched two, maybe three episodes after that. It still wasn't my cup of tea but I did get a better "feel" for the show, family, and themes.
