šŸˆ Dreamland gets a mention on Letterman

Yaaaaaaaas. Dreamland, nom nom nom.

One time I was in Baltimore wearing a Bama shirt and an older gentleman in a Bama shirt came over, and we started chatting. We got on the subject of Dreamland and we talked about it for like an hour hahah. SO DELICIOUS. I miss it so much.

I took my dad there and the waitress brought out the meal... It was ribs and bread. My dad asked where the veges were and one of the cooks came over, really nice guy, he said what else you need? THE best ribs I have ever had.

Sound good to me, anything BBQ is good food! Need to know about a place, Jim and Nick's BBQ? Is it any good?

It's ok, but waaayyy overrated (I've seen in vote best BBQ in the state before which is laughable). Some of their locations are better than others, kinda like Dreamland or any franchised BBQ restaurant. It's worth eating at though. But when there are places in B'ham like Saw's and spots like Archibald's in Northport, it's difficult to end up there often. If you are in a place like Destin and need BBQ, then absolutely.

Meh.

There are so many regional influences in how BBQ sauce is made I can't agree with you here, Rickey. The mustard based BBQ sauce found here isn't what I call "good food." It looks ABSOLUTELY disgusting...

@TerryP is this what is called Carolina BBQ sauce? I thought that was a vinegar base BBQ sauce. Anyway I know I said anything, but to be true I have only had area BBQ. I know that just because it's tell you it a type of BBQ, you really need to be in that area to taste the true flavor.

The nearest BBQ joints in Ohio are Smokey Bones and City BBQ in Columbus. When we go north, we stop there sometimes to eat but it is not as good as the mom and pop local stops. When you can't get BBQ very often, a chain resturant like Jim and Nick's, Smokey Bones and City BBQ are a welcome relief. @rick4bama I have eaten at Jim and Nick's in Nashville several times and it get 5 out of 10 stars.

In the Carolina's there are probably at least seven, maybe eight, different sauces. I couldn't tell you what you have heard called "Carolina sauce."

There are four predominant flavors around here (South Carolina:) pepper and vinegar, mustard, heavy tomato with a lot of sugar, and light tomato with a little ketchup for sweetness.

North Carolina has one called a Lexington sauce that's a lot like the vinegar and pepper along with a couple of more.

@alabama mike Smokey Bones...GREAT chicken pot pie!!!

Have you tried Buddy's BBQ in Alabaster. Just a shack, but it has been there a long time for a reason.

Rick, the two Jim 'n' Nicks that I have frequented are very good. The orange rolls, something you would not expect at a BBQ place, are really good.
The Jim and Nicks I go by look very new, I pass it on my way to the VA @ Tuskegee. That should give you and idea where it at, it about a 1/2 mile form the exit to South 85

This is my kind of post.
Green top, on the way to Jasper from Birmingham used to be a great place. Big Bob Gibson's in Decatur is a must stop place. Take home a pie. Original Dreamland in T Town should be on your barbecue bucket list. Sauce-Que in Mobile is a must. After you leave Mississippi on the way west, you have to wait until Texas to get great barbecue. The County Line in Lufkin has some of the best ribs made. Mostly Brisket in Texas, but still some of the best you can eat.

Went to Dreamland my first time in 1985. Sat down and looked at menu on the blackboard. The two of us Ordered 2 rib sandwiches. When the platter was served there was two dozen ribs and a stack of white bread. We didn't think anything about it but I said wow that is a big rib sandwich. When the bill came it was almost $40.00 and I said hey man we ordered two rib sandwiches. the bill should be $15.00. The big man paused for a minute and said, when I looked at you two I knew that all a rib sandwich would do is make you mad. So I brought you a rib platter. And did you guys eat all those ribs? I said yes we did. He said well what can I say but pay the bill.

That man was right wasn't he.:D

Took my wife to Dreamland I told her what it will be like so she wouldn't freak out. A few years ago I took my sister and told her we would only get meat and bread and a drink. She still tells people about going to Dreamland.

If any of you guys fry turkey, let me suggest buying a bottle of the Dreamland's sauce and use it as the flavoring you inject.

@It Takes Eleven Tim, next time you're in the area I'd suggest trying Kelly's. It's on Hwy 78, a couple of miles east of Summerville. I've not tried their ribs, but have been pleased with everything else.
