Its certainly obvious Dooley has a ton of respect and admiration for Saban and that Saban has rubbed off quite a bit on him. He sounded alot like a young Saban when speaking tonight. I thought he did a good job. Thats along way though from winning games on Saturdays in the SEC.

I have heard that Saban was personally consulted by the TN AD and Saban put in a good word for Dooley....does anyone know if this has any truth to it ?

I like and respect his father, I like and respect his mentor, and from what I've seen of him I like him too. Too bad he's coaching for UT. They could have done MUCH worse.

This hire is significant in my eyes. It just might go a long way in improving the relationships between the two fan bases.

Well...at least mine. Can't say UT fans are going to be fans of Saban as much as some of us respect Dooley.

Damn good hire IMO...

I would not call it being personally consulted. Dooley of course would have listed Coach Saban as a reference. Hamilton would not have been doing his job correctly if he had not called Saban.

Similiar to when Muschamp used Saban as a reference. When Mack Brown called, Saban probably told him, "Yeah, Muschamp is a good coach. Be glad for you to take him out of my hair. And while you're at it, how about taking your boy Applewhite off my hands. He's a good coach too, but I was wrong. He's not ready to be an OC."
