Every sports page I look at has Donta listed as a sophomore. I was just wondering did he get a medical last year. and does that mean he will be here next season?

Every available opportunity a player has to regain or gain an extra year in the program our staff strongly encourages it. It gives the player and program more options.

So basically if there is a hold out we would be what you could call LOADED in 2011 with 4 off linemen returning, Ingram, trich, Julio, and maze plus a "new" QB with 2 yrs in system that can sling the hell outg of the ball. Then return Dareus, Hightower and Barron along with the current young guns that are going to be put to the fire this year. Well not to be to selfish but I don't like the nfl anyway so let it happen

I used to be an NFL fan until the last players strike. I only tolerate it now. If the lockout does come about, this could cause a "huge" uproar from the SEC fans about it being unfair to them that BAMA gets to keep all of their studs. Man, I hope there is a lockout!!!! Come on baby!!!!

Something I saw a couple of weeks back indictated that we have 5 5th year seniors and 10 4th year seniors on our roster. If the NFL has a lockout Saban will have to make some very tough decisions. Of course he is very good at that.

It is probably a moot issue, but I think Dante is a junior rather than a sophomore. He went down in the 4th game of the season last year, the Arkansas game.

The rule on medical redshirts is:

Medical Hardship Waiver

If a student-athlete suffers a season-ending injury or illness after competing in a limited amount of competition during a particular academic year, he/she may qualify for a medical hardship waiver which would allow him/her an additional season of competition during the five-year period of eligibility. To qualify for a medical hardship:

(a) the student-athlete’s injury or illness must occur in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition or subsequent to the first day of classes in the student-athlete’s senior year in high school;

(b) the injury or illness must occur prior to the completion of the first half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and must result in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and

(c) the injury or illness must occur when the student-athlete has not participated in more than two contests/dates of competition or 20% of the institution’s scheduled contests/dates of competition in his/her sport (whichever number is greater).

Section (c) would mean he played in too many games for the year not to count.
