Ya know, LSU was penalized about 14 points worth of yards. Does it take discipline to make a great football team? I have to say yes (unless you are the Oakland Raiders of old) That being said, Les Miles' team wayyyyyyyyy underperformed. Not to rip him, but to ascend to the next level and remain there it takes more that good recruiting. Bama had no business being in the game that late. I believe turnovers and penalties were our only positive stats. We have heart and discipline, which kept us alive. I really think Miles is a great recruiter, but... Gives a lil time. As many mistakes as we made, what would've happened had our guys not tried to fake a blitz and instead remained in position to stop Early Doucet's TD? Just saying... Sloppy games make me crazy, and we weren't the sloppiest on the field. What U say?

I believe that W was there for us....we just did not get it. I mean we made some mistakes that cost us the game. Like you said our defense allowing a TD from a 4th and 4 situation by Early Doucet, and watching our quarterback so gracefully fumble the ball and allow them to get a touchdown from it....2 major factors in our loss that turned into 14 points for them and cost us the game. :(

We also didn't get points off of turnovers ( every time)

JPW fumbled, yes. BUT, he was sacked 7 times and only lost the ball once. He had big, bad LSU defenders in his grill all night long and still kept us in the game. He took hits. He tucked it and ran when he needed to. He ate sacks when it was the smart thing to do instead of trying to get cute. In my humble opinion, JPW was a stud out there in that game and should be applauded.

Just my opinion, Cheers

I don't know. I think I fall in the middle on JPW's performance. There were times he stepped up to the pressure and made the hard throw. There were times he made the right read, and gave us a good chance to win. There were also times he threw into double coverage, didn't recognize the obvious blitz and check out of the play, and didn't make the right read and didn't throw to the wide open guy. Factoring in the pressure he was under, I'd give him a "B-" for the game.

Fair enough.

I'd be glad to take a B- with all the pressure he dealt with on that night.

As for open recievers, when you roll right or left to evade a defender and a reciever comes open on the side you are running away from, he's not really open. He's just uncovered because you can't run full speed one direction and throw across your body and across the field in the other direction without usually watching a "pick-6" ensue. Therefore, not throwing to the reciever in question becomes a very smart play.

To go back to the original question, I don't think that you can be a great football team without discipline. That means doing the little things, like lining up correctly, getting the play in from the sidelines on time, staying within the game plan, doing the things that give you the best chance to win. If talent is equal, the team that makes the fewest mistakes obviously has the best chance to win.

We stayed in the game Saturday because they made a lot of mistakes and we were able to hit them with some big plays. We had a few too many mistakes of our own to be able to pull off the victory.

This is at the core of what makes a good coach. IMO I would rather have a mediocre talented team with a good coach and lots of discipline than a talented team with no discipline. Thats what we saw Sat night.

True that! ;w;w

"Does a great team require discipline?" That, my friend, will be thoroughly explained in the NCG. IF LSU and Ohio State play for the national title, everyone in the country will see what happens to an undisciplined team of thugs. If LSU does not get a handle on this this in the next few weeks, they will get their butts handed to them by a less talented but disciplined Ohio State team. No doubt, LSU has more talent, but they clearly displayed what they do when they are challenged. They fall apart! OSU will capitalize on every, single mistake and penalty that LSU gives them. I love the SEC, but LSU needs to shut their mouths and play football. Lucky nuts by 6, imo.

You and the rest of LSU may not want to look past the SECCG, or even Arkansas. There's a lot of ball to be played by LSU and Ohio State. For all we know neither team could end up in the Sugar Bowl.

I don't Alabama is a bad football team this year by any means. Looking at yall from preseason magazines, I was like, man they won't be that good this year. I was wrong. Alabama has a very good team, however, throughout this season, if LSU could have cut the penalties they have gotten in half even, we would be undefeated and would have beaten most teams by 20 or more imo. I'm not being cocky about LSU, I'm just stating my opinion. Again, like I've said in other threads, this is Saban's first year in Alabama, and he will have Alabama on top no later then year after next. Two good recruiting classes is all it will take, and he can do it.

I guess because of my handle, some think I'm an LSU fan. Well, in southern Alabama, we make gumbo too. AND IT DOES NOT HAVE CHICKEN, SAUSAGE OR ANYTHING IN IT THAT IS NOT SEAFOOD. That crap is called STEW!!! My recipe is from the 1960's, when quality was the most important...not the bottom line of a restuarant establishment. RTR

Well my wife is from SW Louisiana, and she might just disagree with you about the ingredients for gumbo. I have yet to meet anyone who has ever refused a bowl of her gumbo or called it stew after eating it.

Of course, she makes both a seafood and a chicken & andouille/sausage variety. The recipe she uses has been passed down for several generations.

Btw, it takes discipline to make a good gumbo.

Ever had it with duck? Incredibly good and I typically don't like duck at all.

Jeff, I asked my wife about the duck gumbo. She has had it before and said it was very good. She's never tried to make it, though.
