🏈 Director of Player Personnel (and assistant) hired ...

If any of you guys are looking at the name Yelverton and saying, "I've heard that before," you probably have.

He was involved with the recruitment of Keenan Allen and with Tosh a few years ago. You may recall SportsByBrooks ... he threw some stuff out there about Tosh and Otis trying to insinuate something was amiss in the recruitment of Allen a few others.

His name has been floating around for about a week now ... AU was after him as well (with more $.)

Oh yeah, I remember Ol' Otis even without the refresher course. I can say that definitely felt some type of way about his involvement with the Allen flip(he got a job at Cal for getting them all those recruits that year) and I honestly am not all that enthused to hear he's been hired at Bama. I just hope it works out positively for the Tide.

Didn't work out too well with Allen... He's the recruit that we had and lost that I look back on as a huge loss.

Allen's commitment to Cal would have never happened IF the staff had chosen to offer his brother a ride as well. They didn't go with the package deal. Who knows whether it was a mistake or not. His brother did OK, but there's no way of knowing how his success would have translated to Tuscaloosa.

The point Auburn has been after him for a month or so now, and the Bama staff pulled him in, is enough for me to have a little enthusiasm (even if it's only a laugh or two.) Now, if rumor is correct and Otis chose Bama over Auburn despite AU offering more money?!?! It's just another, of many, instances that point to how unstable that coaching staff is (and has been) over the last few years.

Like you, when his name popped up a few years ago I was asking, "who the hell is this guy?" Today, I think one thing is pretty clear. Personal feelings, and work related decisions on personnel made by Saban, don't seem to conflict with each other. It would have been easy to get mad about the impact Otis had on kids like Keenan; at least in my eyes it would be.

It's my firm belief the on-campus recruiting staff hasn't missed a beat with the changes; very likely improved. I've seen more than one refer to him being in Tuscaloosa as a "shot in the arm."

If we see the staff have a strong close in this year's class it'll confirm those beliefs.
