Big Chief was talking on another thread about how the only bowl game that matters any more is the BCSNCG. That has truly been the case, pretty much it's inception in 1998. That leaves for a lot of lack luster bowl games and a lot of empty seats for those games to be played in front of.

I think with the advent of the playoff that will remedy some of the hum drum feelings a lot of fans have towards these games. Think of how good we would be sitting right now if the playoff were this year.

I wondered with an "extra" game how that would play with the fan bases and the added cost of an extra game, but I tend to think it will not affect the fans all that much. Most of us have to watch from the house any way. I think the schools playing in Pasadena this year have an allotment of less than 18,000 seats. That is about 1/4 of what the respective schools do each and every Saturday at their home stadium.

Just one of those things you ponder on a rainy Saturday afternoon in your hunting stand.

As you type this a eight points Buck walk.

I know everybody wants a clear-cut Champion (as I do). But, I sometimes think that the old bowl system wasn't all that bad. Play 'em, let the two major polls (whatever they are) name their champion and let the arguing begin. However, I am looking forward to see how the playoffs work out.

If you think going back to having #1 possibly play #13 or some BS like that is somehow better than #1 vs. #2... I dont know what to say to that... How people can bitch about #1 playing #2 is beyond me.

I meant bitch about the BCS and wanting to go back to the way it was, where EVERYONE was unhappy.

If you're talking about me, nowhere did I "bitch" about anything. I have nothing at all against the BCS. #1 vs. #2 is a good thing, but there is still some occasional arguing about the matchup (Bama vs. LSU in 2011). I said that sometimes I think the old bowl system wasn't all that bad. Bama won a lot of national titles during those years. I don't suppose you'd want to give them back, would you? Don't get so uptight about someone having an opinion that differs from yours. I also said I was looking forward to the playoff system. How do you feel about that? It could happen that #1 does not play #2 for the championship.

Don't think he was referring to you, just nationally, everyone seems to hold a huge grudge against the BCS when in actuality, it usually got the 2 best teams to play each other

As the landscape sits, I am interested in two bowl games, and one of those only mildly and since it's a work night I will not be staying up to watch the ending. Imagine an eight team playoff! In reality, right now, only one game matters. Eight game playoff- seven games would matter.

Let’s put it this way. Why not let the NFL go to a simple two game playoff? Ridiculous right? It’s what NCAA football does.
Why not let NCAA basketball simply pick the two top teams at the end of the year for a winner take all game? Ridiculous? It’s what football does.
NCAA baseball? Who needs a big field of teams and Super Regionals. Pick two teams. Let humans decide that some teams aren’t better. To heck with letting the championship be decided on the field.
I could go on and on and on.
If I don’t respond to competently refute any and all arguments against a playoff, I’ll be back from the mountains in a few days to do so.
Cheers. I hope we have as much fun on here in 2014 as we did in 2013. You guys are the best. Roll Tide.

My question has nothing to do with a for or against playoff discussion; it's why eight versus four.

Comparisons to NCAA baseball and basketball aren't valid as I see this: not even in the same ball park.

NFL comparisons? Again, is that what we want college football to become? And again, two different situations.

There are football playoffs in every division and every league high school to NFL, and they work great. Why do we want to keep this antiquated, dinosaur of a system. Wait, I know the answer: for the bowl guys (very few of them) to keep making big money. What a joke!

Okay, I still haven't left. My wife is slow. Are we going to do away with playoffs in the lower division of college? Copy those. That's what I want Division I to become.

Again, not an accurate comparison. As example, the team entering the playoffs for D3 this season had only played 10 games. The two teams in the championship had played 14 total by the end of their season.

Granted, that's a 32 team bracket.

I wouldn't have any issue with expanding the post-season playoffs if the regular season was cut shorter by eliminating some of the OOC games. But, in the end, that would mean a lot of changes...ie, hosting first round games so the community doesn't end up losing money with the loss of the OOC games.
