šŸ“” Details of Alabama-Notre Dame deal includes $1 million payments

wait.....what?

so we're gonna trade $1 million payments? why?! why involve a payment at all if it's the same for both sides and they're 1 year apart?

Either team could cancel the game for one year but play the other. But, it shows why the neutral site games have been more appealing. Would you rather get paid $5-$6 million or $1 million?

it's not the amount i have an issue with. it's just the fact that they pay us, then we pay them. the same amount. why not just each of us keep the money...it's basically the same thing.

like if i asked you if i could borrow $10. then i give you $10, to loan to me.

$5M is high end, only made that once, more in the $3-4M range. Add in traveling expenses and it's not that much of a difference. I'd rsther give my money to the Tuscaloosa economy than Arlington, Atlanta, or Orlando. The town and school are set to make WAY more for a home game. Think of how much merchandise, parking, tickets, food, and all of that switches hands at a home game. The book store is a madhouse on those days.

In the end, the payouts are what @TerryP said, an ink trail for accounting purposes. Can't have all that money going out and nothinh coming in and vice versa.

I give you $10. You can use that $10 for any expense or invest it. A year later you pay me $10. At that point I can use it to buy something or invest. You've had a year to get the benefit of $10. It could be worth $12 after a year so it's not an even swap. At the same time, I could have paid you $10 and then you said we aren't friends anymore. At that point you won't be giving me $10 next year. At that point you have to pay me to not be friends.
