🏈 Derek Dooley?

This simply just shows how FAR the UT program has fallen.

No disrepect to Dooley, but his only HC experience was three years at La. Tech...and only one good (WINNING) effort.

I disagree. Dooley is a damn good coach. When you have Nick Saban on the phone with a school's Athletic Directer recommending you for a job, you're a decent coach.

The Vol fan base may not be happy right now, but two years from now they'll be glad Kiffin ran off in the night.

I agree. Other than MAYBE Muschamp, this is the best candidate mentioned so far.

Dooley is a good coach, but I think if it pans out that he's the new HC at UT then I think Hamilton loses his job. But, I'm not sure Hamilton doesn't get fired anyway. With the school contacting Fulmer I think Hamilton's days are numbered.

Are you forgetting which school we're talking about??? We're talking about TENNESSEE!!!!!!!!

The coach of Air Force says "NO"...the Duke coach says..."NO"....

When UT has to hire a guy who has coached three years, had TWO losing seasons, then somethng is VERY wrong!

I don't care if Nick Saban sleeps in the same bed as Dooley, when UT is FORCED to hire the coach at La Tech, who just came off another HORRIBLE season...something is wrong.

You say he's a "good coach"...yet you have NOTHING to base that upon. Having a relationship with Nick Saban means nothing.

3 years...2 losing seasons? Does that make him a good coach?
WINS make you a good coach...not who likes/knows you!

Can he become a winning coach? Sure. IS he a winning coach? No.

Don't say he's a "damn good coach" when he has no record to back it up!

Mike Shula was a "damn good coach" before he took the field!

If you search "Derek Dooley" on Twitter...he is getting SLAMMED!!!

"WTF IS DEREK DOOLEY AND WHY IS HE THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AT UT?!"

"So new head coach apparently going to be Derek Dooley? From Louisiana Tech? Im sad."

"Nothin says "big spalsh" like Derek Dooley"

Just a few...of many!!!

Who said Mike Shula was a damn good coach?

Dooley took over a La Tech program that was 3-10 before he arrived with wins over Utah St, Nicholls St and North Texas. In his first year, he was 1 win away from a bowl game. In his second year, he took La Tech bowling for the first time since 2001 and recorded the school's first bowl victory since 1977. It was also the first La Tech team to win 8 games in a season since 1999. He stumbled this season, but packed the house against Boise State and damn near won that game.

I don't have the numbers in front of me but listening to sports radio this morning, Dooley has already brought the average attendance at La Tech up by 15,000 and has tripled the booster revenue in only 3 seasons. He's a great up and coming coach.

He's not the big name hire that most people want and expect in modern times, but he's not a step down from Lame Kiffin either. BECAUSE of his reputation, he'll assemble a great coaching staff and will probably have Tennessee back to winning within 2 years.

he's isn't a Nick Saban, but he's still a damn good hire.
