Before the 2009 game against the Hokies I remember watching one of Frank Beamer's press conferences and being just shocked at some of the comments he made to the press. I recall posting the notes here—though I couldn't find them after a brief search this morning—with special emphasis being made towards his attitude about the game.

In a comment that wasn't "provoked," he made a point to say "we'll have games left after the Bama game. We'll still have a good chance to win our conference with a loss."

No. I'm not making this up. By his comments you got the feel he was conceding defeat before they even finished their fall camp.

This year...well, it seems no different except now it's spread to their fan base as well.

</header> #BEATBAMA was never about beating Alabama.
It was about sacking up. It was about running head first through a loss. It was knowing you're too short, but laying out anyways. It was about getting fired up and not backing down. It was about not wanting to hear one more damn word about how much Alabama was going to win by. It was about believing in these new coaches, the players, owning this offseason, and not rolling into a ball. It was about pride and scoffing at Vegas' line. It was about making the dumb choice, hope and faith over logic, that you'd repeat over and over.

I guess they aren't noble, blessed, or hopeful?

I couldn't imagine having the mindset of "even if we lose"

I still have a lot of respect for Beamer's coaching acumen. But, not near the degree I held five years ago.

Absolutely shocked when I heard his comments. Then seeing this?

In essence, they are saying, "it's not about winning."

I respect that type of approach. Bud Foster has been one of the better DCs for a while now. He has been plagued in recent years by an offense that all too often is three and out. Kind of like what Kines had to deal with in his time with Shula.

Based on this tweet I'm guessing I wasn't the only one who drew that conclusion.
