🏈 David Pollack with a good question: "Who’s your favorite player that wasn’t a star, a household name, but still left a mark at UA?

Ogden played 62, 63, and 1964. I watched him return the 2nd half kick off for a TD vs the boogs in 64. Boogs star player was Tucker Fredrickson, game called by Chris Sheinkel and Bud Wilkinson on ABC. That’s the way I remember it anyway….

There were a lot better Alabama teams, but that 1990 team set the stage for Stalling's successful run over the next few years. They got off to a terrible start, but the turning point came on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. A name from that team that always puts a smile on my face is Stacy Harrison. I was in the north corner endzone in Neyland Stadium with all of the other Alabama fans that day. He blocked the field goal with his helmet and it rolled backwards at least 25 yards to put them in field goal range. He certainly made life easier for me living in East Tennessee.

One of the greatest defensive performances ever by UA. Lee Corso had said, "Alabama taking a high school team to play Tennessee". There was also a story about the dressing room being so hot players could not stay in it at half time-heat was purposely on full blast and it wouldn't shut off. Phillip Doyle for the FG and win 9-6.

We were hit by the injury bug, early and often that season. Lost Siran Stacy in the opener against Brett Favre and USM, lost Prince Wimbley the following week in Athens, then Craig Sanderson the following week against Florida. 3 skill guys, 3 consecutive weeks in games where we had the lead late in the 4th quarter.

I was in Legion Field for that USM game with my dad. Not a good day on the football field.

Those games also served as a ... I'm going to say "line of demarcation." I'm trying to piece it together. I know the total was eight points: total amount Bama lost by in those three games. I want to say it was three, then four, then the one point loss to UF.

Here's a thing with me, Kevin. From that fourth game on we entered a period/stretch of six and a half years where we didn't worry anymore. A year later, being down by four in the fourth didn't matter: you knew they would find a way in the end. It happened SO often under Coach Stallings! Close games, fourth quarter excitement, but a calm knowing ''we've seen this team(s) in crunch time.

Makes me think ... Were there many other teams better than Stalling's when it came to maintaining composure in those types of games?
