Was it when someone threw out Al Bell? Geez. I can't say a damn thing. I'll hijack a thread on something that crosses my mind in a heartbeat.

Since we're watching the media try to tell us about a QB battle when we know it's about the #2...I'll go off on a bit of a tangent on QB depth charts. A short story ... but imagine this as fan: in TODAY's times with the 'net, social media, etc.

Al Bell > Mike Shula and another name or two you'll recognize.

I started my "dive" into Bama history in 1985. That fall...

• Shula started, Sutton was the back-up, then David Smith. The next season...
• Shula started, Smith was the back-up, then Vince Sutton. The next season...
• Jeff Dunn started, Smith was the back-up, then Vince Sutton. The following year...
• David Smith started, Dunn was the back-up, then Vince Sutton. The following year...
• Hollingsworth was the starter, Dunn was the back-up....that's when Danny Woodson entered the picture.

I can't remember how to spell the guys name; Ephram, Efran, something like that. Thomas was his last name. In '90 getting a JUCO guy from MS was commonplace. He was from California: stuck out, ya know?

On the same squad as Sullins and Thomas? (A quick nod to @Kirk Van de Graaff here) Teague and Turner. London was on that team; Swinney, Curry...

In ‘89, Jeff Dunn was the starter before blowing out his knee and Hollingsworth was the backup. As for #3, it was a crapshoot. Scott Etter and even Cotis Nunley took snaps as the #3, before Woodson. Woodson was super talented but dumb as a damn brick!

Willie Gaston. Brother Bill Oliver was DC and coached the DBs. The rule was if you get confused, play zone. Willie played a lot of zone…My memory says Willie dropped an interception in the end zone vs UF in 1994 SEC championship game. Next play was a UF TD. Lost game 24-23.

If he isn't, he should be a household name. In the Bama record books you'll find him at the top with INT's and PBU's.
