🏈 David Cornwell, 5-star QB

My first thought when I heard of him, no way in hell Stoops will let this kid slip from his grasps...seeing as how he is playing HS ball in Norman. But after a little digging, it seems that Cornwell just moved to Norman earlier this year from Jones, OK (just outside of OKC) and he's lived in a few other states (Florida and Nebraska of late).

This could explain why they supposedly have him as a #2 QB (Hansen is their guy) and why he is looking elsewhere...but then again, playing in the SEC is much better than playing in the BigXII, even if its a lower tier SEC school :biggrin_blue:

Andrew Luck was the first name that popped into my head when watching that video. Damn, he has a fast release and that deep ball is pretty. We really need an elite QB, that seems like the one position we have had trouble at getting. I dont think we've signed a 5-Star QB since Coach Saban got here at all. In fact I think the last "5 star" we've got was Brodie Croyle. We've obviously shown that you dont always need an "elite" QB to win but getting one definitely makes life easier.

if he picks Alabama I will say he is great :td:

The caveat, conveniently left out here, is if he doesn't Lance will say he's slow and lazy.

More than one person has said Bama is in great shape for Cornwell. Most recently, Rodney has said he thinks Cornwell is going to "be the guy."

Looks to me like Most of these 5 start QB's

come out of High School- EXPECTING

to be "The Man". Just like high school

only better.

Since Saban- does'nt call plays that way

most "Shinning stars" are not as attracted to

a school that does'nt promise >THEM<

the moon.

Saban has proven- that when he says

"The Best Players will be on the Field"

he means it. And That comment- carries No Quarantees.

That Does'nt appeal to everybody- especailly " 5 stars"

and even more-so QuarterBacks.

In my opinion- THATS the Main reason

Hot Shot QB's go where they will play right off the bat

and throw the ball as often as possible.

Unless Saban changes his "Proceess".

THAT ain't us.

I dont agree with that at all, are some 5 star QBs like that? Yeah im sure. Many big time high school football players are like that, its not just QBs. And we have gone after many 5-star QBs (James Winston, Braxton Miller, Gunner Kiel, Max Browne, Christian Hackenberg, Blaine Gabbert, & Ryan Mallet are SOME 5-stars we've recruited/offered) so to suggest that somehow Saban just doesnt go after 5-stars is kidna ridiculous. Plenty of big time QBs have the type of character Saban wants in players, a great leader. Who do you need on your team to be a leader, more so than any other position? QB. I think there is a better argument that 4-Star QBs actually become "elite" at a higher rate than 5 stars than to suggest somehow that all 5-star QBs have too big of a head so Saban just doesnt want them.

Yet, JPW and Greg as still on NFL rosters. And, there's a good chance A.J. will go fairly early as well.

If A.J. ends up going on the first day? You'll see that perception change.

Based on what I'm told and what I've heard this kid likes what we have to offer and a lot that follow recruiting far more closely than I feel real good about our chances.

To add a note:

FWIW, when it comes to the star ranking system I put a lot more faith in a 5* kid at running back or wide receiver than I do at QB.

If you go back to the 2012 class which of the top ten pro style quarterbacks made an impact last season? Gunner Kiel (who has changed his mind/school how many times?) was considered the #1 prospect. In fact, out of the top 100 QB's last year statistically there's not one that's a true frosh out of that top 10 list.

If you drop back to the class of 2011 you'll begin to find some names. Driskell (UF,) Golson (ND,) Wittek (USC,) and Miller (OSU) are the main ones that come to mind.

37 was peeking over my shoulder looking at names.

lol I couldnt help it lol

And to add to what I was saying I think the bigger name (5-star) QBs are more attracted to schools like OU, USC, etc. because of their history of massive numbers from the passing game and QB friendly offenses while we're considered the play good defense, run the ball team. Thats not just because of Saban, Alabama has had that type of history for forever and add to that rival coaches are gonna say "they dont trust their QBs to put the game in their hand... they're just gonna run it all the time. you got a better chance at the NFL here because we'll let you throw it all over the yard!" Tho I think AJ McCarron, Amari Cooper (and the rest of our receivers), and Coach Nuss are changing that perception a bit.
