🏈 Dave Rader

I think that the Jumbo Package is an integral part to any team's success. I love the Jumbo Package, hell....I live, sleep, and eat, the Jumbo Package! You getter check yourself little mister!

((Am I off camera yet?))

He's getting into the same staff situation he was in while here...a head coach calling all of the offensive plays. Nutt is likely hiring his as the QB coach...but, like Shula, I can't see any chance of Nutt giving up the play calling duties.

I , um, yeah. I , uh, am at a loss for words. Rader? Really now? Is there just a lack of offensive coordinators around these days? I mean, someone is desperate for an OC. I mean, scraping the bottom of the barrel, desperate.

Bingo. I posted the link and made the comment "three yards in a cloud..." but it was more in jest. I've never actually blamed our production on him personally, because I had always suspected, but couldn't prove, that Shula was the problem.

What do you think the over/under on total plays called by Rader was under Shula?

My wife's family has been friends with Rader for years. He'd never say it publicly, but he was never allowed to truly run the offense and call the plays. He was used mainly to develop Brodie. Houston Nutt will NEVER give up play calling on game day.

Yeah from what I remember Shula was the horrible play-caller. I don't know why people run Rader into the ground just because of our offensive woes, I actually thought he was a decent X's and O's guys. However, if he was the genius that came up with the jumbo package...I retract my statement.

I think it's both Rader's and Shula's fault, but I would pit more of it on Shula because he was the head coach and has the final say. Them and their 1 yard and a cloud was oen of the worse things I have ever been witness to in Alabama football history lol

If you look back over Shula's tenure our offense moved the ball a lot........between the 20's. Brodie broke Shula's record for TD's and yards. Then JPW came along and broke Brodies record. (I think mainly because he started for 3 years) I digress. Shula had an offense that could move the ball all day long and twice on Sunday in between the 20's. It was in the red zone that we sucked so bad. If Shula, God forbid, would have hired an O-line coach that would teach somebody how to put a D lineman on his has ass, he might have been successful. Granted in order to be able to teach an O-lineman how to do that you would have first needed to hire a good S&C coach and make your players work out. Nonetheless. I think that for the most part Shula was a decent offensive mind. He just didn't have the balls to play physical football when they needed to.

If memory serves me correct there was an article posted by RollTideRandy about this very thing being the reason why Shula was fired from Tampa Bay. It was an old article he was able to dig up from a sports writer in the Tampa area and all that he described, whined and belly ached about sounded just like our fan base during his tenure here.

Which, like XXL briefly alluded to, all comes back to one Bob Connelly. He did have an eye for some good offensive lineman on the recruiting trail...only to screw them up on technique and the very thing Pendry has accomplished in very little time...

Our lineman now are as tough as nails. Hell, Con used to jump on the defensive lineman for putting up a fight when they were in drills against his OL.

Dave Radar might be successful at Ole Miss as an OC, but what is the measurement of success out there? They are basically going to have an entirely new offense this year. They are rebuilding on defense. What are the expectations? This year, they were sky high, and they came up short. I'd think if they win 7 games next year, it'd be considered a success.
