A team of destiny wouldn't do this. Now come on...

It appears that some gamesmanship may have helped Auburn jump out to a 21-3 lead over Florida State in the BCS National Championship game.It came as a shock to anyone who had seen Florida State’s offense when the Seminoles sputtered offensively throughout the first half of play. A fake punt helped Florida State close the halftime deficit to 21-10, but after a three-and-out to start the second half, wideout Kelvin Benjamin came over to the sideline with some crucial information for head coach Jimbo Fisher and star quarterback Jameis Winston.
In this video, dug up by The Big Lead, you can hear Benjamin saying ā€œDameyune calling all the plays, coach.ā€

The person Benjamin is referring to is Auburn co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig. Craig was the quarterback coach for Florida State from 2010-2012, so it makes sense that he would be able to steal FSU’s offensive signals.
For the rest of the game, Florida State staff members held up towels to prevent Auburn from seeing their signals. As pointed out by Tomahawk Nation, Fisher even addressed the issue on Monday.
ā€œThey had a couple of our signals a couple times and were getting to them. That happens, people do it, and that’s our fault. You’ve got to change them, constantly rotate them, being able to get them in different ways. That’s part of the game. I don’t have a problem with that,ā€ Fisher said.
Like Fisher said, things like this happen and it’s on Florida State to change the signals, especially when they have a former staff member on the opposing sideline.
The towels obviously helped too, as the Seminoles stormed back to win 34-31.

While I feel like I should be outraged, it wasn't like they couldn't expect this to happen. I would be outraged if they had used cameras at games to scout the signals of the other team or paid people explicitly for the signals (or a playbook). But this is really on Jimbo for not changing the scheme up at the bare minimum once he realized he was facing Auburn.

Allbarn cheated by knowing the offense play calls

Perhaps a little bit of both. Florida State used a fake punt as a springboard to a game-saving touchdown drive late in the first half, cutting the deficit to 21-10. But to start the second half, FSU went 3-and-out.
Then, this happened:
That’s star receiver FSU Kelvin Benjamin telling Winston and coach Jimbo Fisher that Auburn offensive coach Dameyune Craig was stealing offensive signals. How would Craig know them? He was the QB coach for the Seminoles from 2010-2012.

A better way to put that would be FSU got caught with their pants down when Auburn learned their signals.

Cheated? Come on now...

Sorry I don't buy that. You are right that they should have changed their signal calling, but cheating is cheating any way you look at it. If a Coach at Allbarn used their signals to make decisions then they cheated.

"Part of Allbarn's game plan is to get their signals and make decisions?"

The analogy has been used before and I'll ask for forgiveness before I bring it up here.

If there's a base runner on second and he recognizes the signals from the catcher, is that cheating?

Auburn learns their play calls and responds accordingly. That's cheating?

We're not going to see eye to eye on this one my friend.

The way I see it, if Auburn had paid someone just to get the playbook or signals or had used cameras to tape FSU and get the signals, then I would call it cheating. But having someone on your staff who knows them because they worked at FSU in their offensive coaching staff and then FSU being dumb enough not to realize that and try to mix things up somehow is not cheating. And I was in an uproar about it when I first heard an Auburn coach was stealing FSU signals, at least until I found out the whole story.
