Clemson coach Dabo Swinney was asked if he had experiences or thoughts - as a coach and former player - about former Missouri star Michael Sam's decision to reveal he is gay.
"When I was at Alabama there were a couple of guys, as a player, that we felt like that was their sexual orientation," Swinney told The Morning Show with Jason Bailey and Randy Cross on 92.9 The Game in Atlanta. "But it was never an issue, never a problem. It's not something that you run out to tell people."
Swinney said "You just knew," and "it wasn't as talked about amongst the team."
Swinney played wide receiver from 1990-92 for the Tide.

As long as you play your hardest every game, I don't care if you're black, white, gay, straight, transgendered, Christian, Sikh, Muslim, liberal, conservative, have ADHD, have IBS, have red hair, have purple hair, have 97 piercings, secretly love Auburn, watch "Golden Girls", whatever. I will support and root for you!

.. unless you are a Cowboys fan :icon_thumright:

The media's obsession with this issue has gone way over the top. There is no escaping it: awards shows, sports programming, message forums dedicated to Alabama football, etc. etc.....

I wonder when the American public reaches a saturation point with this issue if there will be some backlash eventually? It has almost become propaganda.

You must use Yahoo.

You must use Yahoo.

I am not sure what that means really but no, I use Google. As I said, there is no escaping it. I certainly didn't use Yahoo to find two separate threads about gay football players on my "home forum". I didn't use it to watch the Grammy's because I love music from all genres. I do like the singing reality shows (guilty) and saw an obvious gay chick dressed like a dude that felt she had to make it a point to say she was gay (which was ok for the judges but don't point out to Harry Connick Jr. that you feel under the weather). I log onto my FB account and there is an ad wanting me to see a story about Ellen Degeneres and she is smooching all over her wife/girlfriend. The POTUS loves talking about it. The Olympic coverage in Sochi made a point of how Putin doesn't care for the gays. A judge in VA struck down something to do with gay marriage (heard that on the radio on the way to the store last night). No escaping it! This is all in one week btw.

Shall i go on?

No escaping it? What are you trying to escape? It's a part of society, just as much as straight relationships. It's taken until fairly recently for it to be accepted, much like interracial marriages decades before, so of course it's gonna be more prevalent. Hell, even today (as seen by the Cheerios ad) biracial families are STILL a hot topic .. Sad, but true.

Like I said before, why is it OK for people to discuss their religion (for example) but not their homosexuality? Half the kids on "American Idol" (which I also watch, guilty pleasure!) through the years have talked about God, or their spouses. We get one lesbian who is open about her identity, and suddenly it's propaganda? What makes her any different from all of the guys and gals talking about their girlfriends and boyfriends? Being gay is part of her identity, just as being straight is someone else's, or being a Christian is, or living in Alabama (see: the 3 Bama boys on "Idol" this year). As for Putin, THAT is a big deal because of anti-gay propaganda and unlawful jailing of gay activists. Of course it's big news .. It's one of many insane things Putin's government (aka, the Putinocracy) has carried out over the past few years.

What am I trying to escape? Having to be force fed an issue that does not affect me in any way shape or form. Again, I could not care less who sleeps with who...period! The people in my life I know that are gay don't define themselves as gay first, a sexual orientation.

My straight relationship and anyone else's doesn't make headlines every day and doesn't need to be declared at every turn. What's the point in it? The cereal ad was made a big deal by someone wanting to make a deal out of it. Funny, I didn't hear conservatives make a "deal" out of it.

Since when? Christianity is under attack more than ever. See any news story about someone raising hell about a nativity scene being put up in public view.

Again, someone feels that their sexual preference defines them? I will never understand that premise and it's a huge stretch to compare that to someone identifying themselves as being from Alabama. Notice how the gentleman before she was "judged" was more than likely gay as well but he didn't feel the need to use it as a crutch. His singing ability carried him through. No excuses.

As for Putin, THAT is a big deal because of anti-gay propaganda and unlawful jailing of gay activists. Of course it's big news .. It's one of many insane things Putin's government (aka, the Putinocracy) has carried out over the past few years.

Unlawful here but not in Russia. It's their country and they can run it as they see fit. Unless it's a threat to the US, we have no business "legislating our morals" on the Russians unless it turns into a human rights issue.

The bottom line is, there are more pressing things facing this country than who screws who. There are people without jobs and just struggling to make it on a day to day basis. I bet they don't give a damn about the gay issue. It's nothing more than a distraction for the issues that really need to be addressed in this country and it's not even a good distraction.

How much longer is he gonna be on the air, have heard they are losing listeners due to Jay.

Plano, are you serious?

He has been on air with a morning talkshow here for something like 5 or 6 years. Al Del Greco and a radio DJ Tony Kurre are on with him. It is actually a pretty good show in the mornings from 6-10. There have been a couple of radio stations try to compete and none of them have made it.

Yes I'm serious, the last year or so I've read numerous tweets, message board postings about Jay's radio persona and how he is saying things that are rubbing some Alabama fans the wrong way.

I don't listen to him.

Personally, I think he and Del Greco do a good job of being partisan, but showing their loyalties as well.

I imagine it is a lot like everything else. You can't please everybody, but I haven't heard anything about him getting axed or wearing out his welcome.
