🏈 D. Carter and his late start

I've read that D. Carter has been living with the playbook since he committed. I've seen the videos of him working out in South Florida with dad. I know that he has two years of playing time, albeit with other teams. But I also know that all this is not all that is needed.

Timing, speed/range, and unspoken "just knowing each other" are all essential to performing at the highest level for WR and his QB.

My question is How will having the rest of the team steam along into the season for two weeks of fall camp impact D. Carter's ability to plug in and be up to speed fully?

My guess is the staff would probably ease him into some limited play time until he gets his timeing right with the QB's
He'll have to beat out a couple guys who have been here a while. I don't think Saban will just throw him out there without earning some play time. The longer it takes the less likely he'll get out there.
All this goes out the window if he's as good as advertized though.

Carter is and will be ready to go. His Dad, NFL great Chris Carter, is harder on him than Saban will be. The transcript issue will be cleared up soon. He's good but not a plug and start from day one. He will be full speed when SEC play starts.

One catch here.

Because of the way the NCAA rules are set up if he was cleared today, and the team was practicing in full pads today (I know there are two practices and I'm assuming one will be in pads,) he'd have to basically sit out of contact for two days. The first two practices of the year aren't in pads, but shorts and helmets basically. So, Duron falls into that category.

He'll be a bit of a step behind the team in those terms.

kudzu mentioned the timing aspect. Part of that is true, it's something they'll be working on. However, Duron has been in Tuscaloosa for a month or so now and he was working out with the QB's in the skel drills. In terms of preparation, I'd guess he's already worked on the game plan for the first four games with those QB's, the first three for sure.

Just as a side note to that if you didn't know, the players work on game plans throughout the summer workouts. The start with the Auburn game, and then work backwards. So, that last week of skel drills was spent on Kent State.
