🧑‍🤝‍🧑 / 🏡 Curious. How many of you folks have video outside your home? Doorbells, camera's, etc?

I've got Ring ™. I got it for several reasons, mostly lazy. Who is here, kind of thing. But it came in useful yesterday. Maybe life saving.

I opened my front door yesterday during the game because I heard the Fed-Ex truck. The damn Jack Russell sees a lizard and within seconds I have a storm door covering in slobber. I don't blame him; he hates lizards. "How dare something like that crawl on the door?"

So, I went to grab Windex to clean the door and forgot about it being open. I forgot about Mom. At the same time I making some lunch...

A few minutes later it was a "where is she?" Out the damn door was the answer.

Enter the doorbell. I would not have had a clue which direction she went without the video. At a click.

Going back to the earlier thought...

The guy that lives across the street has video, everywhere. Although, he has a lot of equipment outside. I haven't looked house to house, but I'm fairly sure 8 of 10 have something. Maybe less, don't know.

Just got me to thinking...how many of you guys have video?

I have several older Arlo & newer Eufy cameras. We use them for several reasons other than security. Keep up with our pet, watch for deliveries, and other things.
The Eufy system is the best value that I’ve used. Great video quality, very affordable, & one time purchase (not monthly).
**I hope (and assume) that all turned out ok with your mom.
Things like that quickly make us understand that most of the bullshit we discuss/ argue about is just that - bullshit. Sports/politics etc… quickly pale when one of our loved one’s are concerned.
I hope it turned out well.

Had ring when I had a house, nothing now
I just had a neighbor ring the doorbell. I know what she wants (among other things) it's going to be "do you have any salt, or pepper, or sugar..." I didn't go to the door.

She's a nice lady. I like her. BUT, I don't want to talk to her now about things that you can find at the Dollar Store. ™

On a different subject: I went into the Pig Friday because they had charcoal on sale. They had spices on sale ... four for a buck. Uh. Yeah.

This sort of goes back to the dog thread. I don't have to do that with my dogs. I let mine out about a half of an hour ago. I read your comment, decided to see what they were doing.

My Jack Russell was in the backyard chasing down lizards. My Aussie, laying on the front porch watching the people across the street: like it was a TV show. The new one, another Aussie, was in the shed staring at the compressor. I haven't figured that out yet. BUT, here's the point. Both gates are open...they don't leave the yard.

It's the "other things" that make it worth the money. Simple, but stupid example. "I think I heard the garbage truck. Do I need to bring the container in?"

Unfortunately, our dog bolts at the sound of thunder- have found her 3/4 mile away at times. So, we use a tracker & try to be preventative!

I’ve got skybell video and surveillance (front door, common areas in the house)

Q in the garage.

Standard surveillance on the rest of the exterior of the house and yard. (Swann I think)

The night after I adopted my other Aussie, not the new one, the same thing happened. I might still have some of the pictures of her as a pup...she grew up on a horse ranch about 100 miles from here. Got her at 3 months.

Thunder. She booked. I left the gates open, left my window open, and let her go. About 2AM she was outside my window whining. She's never left, since.

This goes back to the breed. Aussie's are an interesting bunch.

We’ve got 6 Ring cameras around the exterior. Have paid for themselves many a time. Able to share footage with the Sherriff on two occasions (for events that thankfully don’t impact me), caught some very funny events, allows us to communicate with someone outside the house if we aren’t home, tell UPS guy that I’ll open the garage for him to drop the package, all that stuff. Have 2 trained around the pool area since the kids are always bringing people over and some are not as risk adverse as we are. If someone were to have an accident or something back there, I thought it would be good to have it recorded for our own protection. Many more uses than what we imagined when I installed them.

Bought dashcams for our vehicles after my daughter was involved in an accident that totaled her car. Woman who was fully to blame argued that it wasn’t her fault - police decided correctly that it was. Dash cams are very cheap insurance
I wish I had one when I hit a women from the back. It would have shown that her blinker was on.

at the minimum, front and back. You can spend some money on car cams...but they aren't that expensive as well. I saw a model the other day that was around 40...360°

Eufy Ring doorbell and outdoor camera. It's one of the best I've seen next to Google Nest.

The doorbells hadn't been on the market very long when I bought mine. I haven't looked at those. I'll need to replace mine fairly soon, I'm sure.
Yeah They called me and I had complained about Alder's product and they told me they invested in Eufy. I was willing to try it. SO far so good. The only thing I don't like about it is that camera starts recording whenever I'm in the yard or driveway... but if someone else pull up in driveway it will not pick them up. I don't know if it's a glitch. It should be the opposite way. THey also have a away mode whenever someone is detected it sends off loud noise and it startles them. I personally love that.
