Nah, in my eyes its a huge step up to the Pro's. Their line wouldn't be easy to block and Calvin Johnson would be like Julio on steroids against us.

Lions by 20.

They suck, but they suck in the NFL. College teams have only a few players with honest NFL talent.

The talent of the Lions is still better. If the players weren't quality they wouldn't be in the league.

Now, on the flip side, I'm sure many high school teams could beat some lower tier college teams.

I bet Prattville High or Hoover High could beat Miles College...etc.

I don't think any college team could beat any pro team, and I don't think any high school team could beat any DII or higher NCAA team. There are probably quite a number of DIII teams who couldn't hang with elite high schools. Although there are some really good NAIA schools out there, I'd think there are some bottom feeders who might fall victim to a very good high school team.

The Lions would destroy us. EVERYONE in the NFL is a college star and probably tougher and certainly older (usually for the better in pro sports for the most part).

It's fun to joke around about stuff like this, but anyone who really thinks any college team could beat a pro team does not watch football with the same eyes I do.

Roll Tide anyway!

Yeah, I always cringe when I hear people say "that high school team could beat a terrible D1 team" because, truth is, they can't.

Tim broke it down pretty well...

An elite highschool program (i.e. St. Thomas Aquinas) might could pull it off against one of the worst midmajor teams (i.e. North Texas). It probably still wouldn't happen, although the high school team with a handful of blue chips at key positions and a bunch of other guys that will eventually get college offers probably has more raw talent on the field.

Anyways, a highschool team is 99% more likely to upset a bad D-I school than a college team is likely to upset a bad NFL franchise. The jump in talent from the college to the pros is much more steep than the jump from highschool to college.

As for as the Tide upsetting Detriot... I'm just going to keep my dreaming in check. I'll be happy if the Tide doesn't allow a Utah upset and finishes this season strong. Roll Tide!

Pretty funny question...

I would say that the worst NFL team...winless or not, would beat the best college team by 4 to 5 touchdowns without breaking a sweat.

The Lions are dreadful but as someone below posted, they are NFL dreadful. Every player on that team excelled on the collegiate field.

Put Bill Parcells at the head of that Franchise with the same players and get a coach that has a track record and the Lions would surprise a lot of people.

Just as something to chew on in light of this thread...

The last NFL team that went through the season without a win was Tampa Bay. The QB at the time?

Heisman Trophy winner, Steve Spurrier.

The Lions would hand us our arses on a silver platter, and the platter would be bent.

When comparing NFL to Div-1, the closest analogy I could come up with is imagine us facing a D-1 school with first team All Americans at EVERY position. That's about the disparity in talent.

I much prefer college football over the NFL, but I'm no idiot....

A great college team against a bad NFL team would be like an American MLB team against a Japanese team. There is absolutely no reason for the American team to lose - but they sometimes find a way to.

Its the same reason you have teams like Appy State beating Michigan in 07. No reason for it to happen - but it did.

The talent gap between Bama and Tulane is probably greater than Bama to the Lions, but we let them hang around...same thing for La Tech in 1992 - think about how many NFL players we had on the 1992 team, and it took a punt return for TD in the 4th quarter to beat La Tech 13-0.
