🏈 Could BAMA's Strength of Schedule (or lack thereof) hurt them?

I will preface this with, yes, i know there is a long way to go till it matters, so if that is your first thought and statement then just move along, nothing to see here.

Let's just assume for the sake of this thread that Fla St. and Oregon go undefeated and of course win their respective conference championship games and Bama does the same, that will leave at least 3 undefeated teams.

and we all know they are dying for a reason NOT to have an SEC team in the BCS game, will BAMA's SOS hurt them, because let's be honest, It is not looking good, all the teams we have beaten either suck (Michigan, Arkansas) or doesn't matter (WKU, FAIU)

the only teams i can see helping our cause is if LSU doesn't implode, because they looked very beatable last night, and whomever we play in the SECCG, probably SC or GA.

I know this is alot of looking ahead and assumptions. but is something that has kinda got me worried a little.

any thoughts or will this be another of my threads that gets 200 looks but no replies? :icon_evil:

If we win out, we're in. No doubt in my mind. There's no way an undefeated SEC champion is going to be kept out of the title game anytime soon.

FSU's strength of schedule doesn't look all that great either...which is why many have them picked to make it in. Oregon and Bama will have something to say about that.

Right now, I'm thinking Oregon vs an SEC team. Still alot of football to be played, Oregon has been the king of the Pac-12 for a while now.

If the three teams you mentioned are all undefeated at the end of the season FSU is left out. There are no if, ands or buts about it.

There are two reasons why FSU is left out; Murray State and Savannah State. Both are FCS schools.

Michigan floundering about and Arky imploding before our eyes has hurt us in SOS, but FSU hadn't played anyone til last night in Clemson. Clemson very well could implode and lose 3-4 more games now. Oregon hasn't exactly had a tough schedule to date. USC, UCLA, and Oregon State now look like tougher games for the Ducks. With that said, we control our destiny and there is NO WAY IN HELL that BAMA would be left out being undefeated and defending NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

No...Both Oregon and FSU have about 1-3 games on their schedule that is worth watching....If we win out, we're in, done deal....Playing a possible #2 LSU in Death Valley will really help, then playing in the SECCG against a top 5 opponent that either has one-two losses....

I would like us to play harder games in the future though, not just open with a big game on a neutral site, but play a top 15 opponent on a home-home series as well...Something like LSU did last year, opened with Oregon at Arlington, then two weeks later play @WV.

Weren't both Michigan and Arkansas top 10 pre-season? Alabama could schedule a "big name" out of conference team now for the 2015 season, but it doesn't mean that team won't hit a slump by then. I understand the draw but they committed to opening up against big bad Michigan with what is called the most exciting player in college football. Now...

Right now the Tide have future games scheduled with Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Michigan State, and Georgia Tech (TBD) down the road. Right now those all look like decent games, or they were when they were originally planned.

It's your analogy I see missing the point.

When LSU scheduled Washington the only thing they had going for them was the point they were in a BCS conference. Frankly, Western Kentucky would give Washington a strong run for their money. In fact there's a good chance they'd take the money, and the W, out of the state of Washington if that game were to be played.

Honestly, with the expansion of the league and everyone having to schedule 12 regular season games there is no way to schedule 3 top tier schools every year. Plus no program is going to want to do it. They want to have those "softer" games. Is there any team outside of Notre Dame that schedules multiple big conference games for out of conference? They don't count since they are independent and can schedule whoever they wish.

Looking at this years Top-10 out of conference schedule so far everyone is in the same boat, minus FSU who is playing two FCS schools. I wouldn't discount some of these "smaller" schools because they have pulled upsets in the past. They may not compete on a weekly basis, but they show up from time to time.

Oregon -Ark State, Tenn Tech, & Fresno State
Kansas State-Missouri St, North Texas, Miami (FL)
LSU - North Texas, Washington, Idaho, Townson
UGA - Buffalo, FAU, Ga Southern, GT (annual rivalry)
So Carlolina - East Carolina, UAB, Wofford, Clemson (annual rivalry)
Standford - San Jose St, Duke, Notre Dame
West Virginia - Marshall, James Madison, Maryland

And do we ever hear the same complaints in college basketball or baseball? Oh well you know they played those smaller schools so their win isn't as valid.
