🌎 Comparitively speaking, comparing '74 to today if it's possible, did the Hearst kidnapping get as much attention as this one with Guthrie?

The Hearst "kidnapping" was front and center for many weeks. However, news coverage was very different. Today news reporters are trying to solve the crime and report on minutia (camera flashes in the garage, investigators on the roof). In the 70s reporters reported what law enforcement told them.
Do you remember if they conducted interviews with people who used to be in the FBI? Or ex police? Experts, if you will.

I remember the Hearst kidnapping, but during that time in my life I was busy doing "stupid" stuff as a kid and though the news was boring, so I really don't remember the coverage on it. Side notes to our news media today, they'll drop a story in a heartbeat for something they believe is "juicier". Apparently, Guthrie's kidnapping trumps Ice/Minnesota/Fraud coverage for whatever reason. 😛 My wife made a comment about it the other day because her mom is the same age and said something on the lines of if it were her mom kidnapped. I told her she wouldn't have to worry about it because if anyone kidnapped my MIL, they would return her the next day.

1974 great year for me! I was working at CBS Record Co. WE make the albums. I was going to school. Pittman High Pittman NJ. I just became a Father in April. yes, I remember old Patty too. What about Old Paul Getty III that happen in 1973.

I remember them both well, JP Getty the 3rd getting his ear cut off bc grandpa would not pay the ransom. The Patty Hearst deal was much bigger news being the daughter of Randolph Hearst. I was 13 when Hearst was "kidnapped" and held by the SLA. Daddy's money got her off the bank robbery. The "kidnapping" was huge news on all 3 networks.

As far as Ms. Guthrie, if she was not S. Guthrie's mom, it would not be getting the national news attention it is receiving. I do not mean to sound harsh with that statement. Hopefully, she will be found alive soon.

The truth is harsh at times. And this is the truth though given her position and how well she's known it's understandable.

I feel a bit amiss not saying this. I've noticed over the last few years that the local area news has been become more diligent in getting the alerts out about people with dementia missing. It's not the the level of an Amber alert, but it's improving.

And what was it you just "dared to say?"

Said in another way..... Influential, prominent, well known, well off wealthy people are usually headlined, whether good or bad. Some enjoy the limelight in favorable situations while others do not. They would rather keep a lower profile and not be highlighted.

While the average person, who values their privacy, I think, would rather shy away from headlines and spotlights. Except in cases of missing people and disappearances when all available information needs to be made public.

I agree with @alabama mike here as we are thinking along the same lines.
