Now I know some of you are questioning why I'm looking at offensive numbers, quite frankly I don't care about the defenses right now. I want to see what each teams offense has been able to do. I know Notre Dame plays a full schedule - ie, they aren't playing powerhouses like FAU, Western Carolina, or Western Kentucky (even though they are in a bowl game), that must be taken into account when looking at the statistics - maybe we don't score as many points against tougher competition, maybe we do...who knows, but its still something to consider when looking at the data below.
I guess I started down this path to see exactly what to expect from Notre Dame's offensive output.
-----------
To get it started, I'm going to look at each teams output when it comes to Offensive Touchdowns.
Notre Dame
Passing = 13 TDs (Eifert accounts for 4 of these)
Rushing = 22 TDs
Total 35 TDs via offense / 12 games = ~2.91 TDs per game.
Alabama
Passing = 27 TDs (Michael Williams has accounted for 3)
Rushing = 35 TDs
Total 62 TDs via offense / 13 games = ~4.76 TDs per game.
--------
Next, I wanted to compare Extra Points - as this is a pretty good indication of the number of TD's scored either via offense, defense, or special teams play - doesn't include 2 point conversions.
Notre Dame
Extra Point Attempted = 33
Extra Point Made = 31 (94% made)
Alabama
Extra Point Attempted = 63
Extra Point Made = 63 (100% made)
As far as I can remember, we've only went for a single 2 point conversion, but I could have missed one.
--------
Next I wanted to see what type of action field goal kickers are getting stuck with - ie, the offense can't move the ball into the end zone, so the FG kicker had to man up and help out the offense - both are equally successful at making their attempts at 75% each.
Notre Dame
Field Goals Attempted = 32
Field Goals Made = 24 (75%)
Alabama
Field Goals Attempted = 20
Field Goals Made =15 (75%)
---------
Lets look at the Red Zone Offense - both teams do a good job of taking advantages of the red zone, notice that Notre Dame has to rely more heavily on the kicker than we do in the red zone.
Notre Dame = 46% (19 FGs in 46 scores)
Alabama = 19% (10 FGs in 51 scores)

I was curious, which team punts the most, another sign of the offenses ability to produce. This really didn't indicate much.
Notre Dame = 48 total punts (avg 4 per game)
Alabama = 46 total punts (avg 3.5 per game)
---------
The key takeaway I'm getting from this exercise Alabama has more explosive offense output than Notre Dame, resulting in points that don't show up in the red zone offense.
Notre Dame
Passing = 69% (9 of 13) of passing TDs are scored within the red zone.
Rushing = 82% (18 of 22) of rushing TDs are scored within the red zone.
Alabama
Passing = 41% (11 of 27) of passing TDs are scored within the red zone.
Rushing = 86% (30 of 35) of rushing TDs are scored within the red zone.
