šŸ€ Collin Sexton —McDonald All-American Event (Game and Dunk contest)

@TerryP , that was me back in the day some 30 years ago and 50 pounds! I had to play the 3,4, and sometimes 5 at 6'2". We played full court man to man from the opening tip. Our offense was like a scene from "Hoosiers".
I went to the Barner football camp that following summer ( my coach failed to pass along the info on the BAMA camp until it was too late) and Reggie Herring, the LB coach down there at the time offered me a scholly to play LB after seeing me play some 7 on 7 stuff in the secondary at safety. I told him that I was a QB and that I was just having fun back there. He swore that if I would sign with them, he would make me a LB. Thanks but No Thanks Coach!!

That an 8 foot goal?;)

@BamaFan334 , I actually had a 37" vertical leap. I think that was part of the infatuation Barner LB Coach Herring had with me. All of my uncles and Dad were really athletic. All were All-State in football, baseball, or basketball. My oldest uncle was offered a basketball scholarship to BAMA but he turned it down to help my grandmother raise his 5 younger brothers ( my "grandfather" was pretty much nonexistent then). Another uncle was drafted by the Dodgers out of HS, but my oldest uncle and my grandmother wouldn't allow him to sign. They told him that he would go to college. He went to a tiny college, St. Bernard in Cullman County and was eventually drafted by the Reds as a pitcher and by the Atlanta Hawks as a 6'5" shooting forward. He signed with the Reds and played with Ken Griffey Sr and George Foster wih the Triple A affiliate. His HS sweetheart and wife gave him an ultimatum, either his baseball career or her. He walked away from baseball and was divorced maybe 4-5 years later.
I played at a small school in Jefferson County and was athletic enough to never leave the field or court. I handled all kicking duties, played QB and FS. I pitched, played the outfield, and played first as well. Athletics has more or less been in my blood from day 1. God gave me some ability and a love for the game.

On a serious note, we're not accustomed to having the one and done guys.
Rivals has UK, UCLA, 'Zona, Bama, and then Washington at #5 in their '17 team rankings. 247 is a lot like that, Bama at fourth, Duke at number five. Rivals hasn't updated with the flip of Porter.

Here's the point. If that continues, seeing Bama in the top five or even top ten consistently, fans had best get used to it happening. I don't see any reason why we shouldn't expect it to continue. In my eyes Johnson is proving he can recruit.

I do find pages like this one ... raises the eyebrows, ya know? Good class and there's still quite a disparity. Look at UK's class.

Just goes to show that, like us in football, UK reloads. We have ONE guy who is probably (has only happened once in my memory, G Wallace) a one and done. UK will have FOUR guys who are almost SURELY one and done. They won't have anyone like our MS recruit, who is more of a project with potential.

I do love the way Johnson is immediately having success in the state, and he CAN recruit. I think he can coach talent as well, so we will see. I would love to see more basketball recruiting coverage - supposedly there is another Sexton type guard out of LA that we lead for, which is good news if Sexton is gone after a year.

Word on the street, he's the reason TAMU landed their recruiting class. Avery Jr was at Plano West the year before the Hogg (#29 overall) and Davis (#31 overall) committed.

TAMU's 2015 class 247 ranking was #4.

Sure would have been fun to watch 2x Bama POY John Petty compete last night. They mentioned some of the McDonald kids were undecided, I wonder after all the alley oops by Sexton if we persuaded anyone? If not, he's still a walking talking billboard for the future of Alabama basketball.

Wow, that's pretty awesome man. Being gifted with height seems to be the way, unless you're extremly fast. Hoping my son gets my wife's grandfather's size, ha ha. I have the genes for great strength and athleticism, but at 5'10-11, if made it tough to get any looks. Luckily I was really good at baseball as a middle infielder and played at Georgia Southern before transferring to Alabama. I just wasn't fast enough. Was quick, but not very fast. Da'Ron Payne would give me a race, I'll put it that way. I know he's five flat, and I was a 4.9 at my fastest ever, ha ha.

I was a 4.85 at my best before I walked on at BAMA. Coaches would ask my times and I would tell them that I was fast enough to get away from the big uglies that chased me!! My son always wants to make comparisons between what he is doing as compared to the old man. I tell him to carve his own way and that the games have changed from almost 30 years ago. He also goes to a much larger school and I told him that makes a difference as well. I think he can be a decent football player or soccer player. He has good hands and reflexes. He doesn't shy away from contact either. I wanted him to play the big 3 like I did but it wasn't in the cards. He likes basketball but doesn't love it and he loves baseball but I won't kiss anyone's ass so he can be on the team. We started looking at some football camps for this summer and it looks like we may hit UAB and UNA prospect camps. We did Samford and Jacksonville St last year and BAMA (the younger ages) the summers before. Hatcher at Samford puts on a great camp, Gross at JSU was disorganized as HELL!! Saban and BAMA, well, you know how it is run!!

McDonald's AA Game impressions: Bamba, Porter, Sexton & more

CHICAGO, Ill.
- The West took down the East 109-107 with Michael Porter taking home MVP honors, but it was the play of Mohamed Bamba that impressed the most.

The 9-7 reach of Bamba was a problem tonight just as it has been in the practices and the scrimmage. Opposing post players struggled to score over him, and Bamba totaled four blocks in the game. He also scored 17 points, making 7-8 on his two-point attempts.

The overwhelming impact of Bamba's length is just too much to discount when ranking the big men in the 2017 class. It now looks like he will be No. 2 in the Top247, passing up DeAndre Ayton and behind only small forward Michael Porter.

Speaking of Porter, the new Missouri recruit has stood out all week with his impressive combination of length, athleticism, versatility, skill and basketball IQ. He is the future of the game as a quintessential positionless player at 6-9. Porter finished with 17 points and eight rebounds.

Known as a gunner who also loves to draw fouls, Alabama signee Collin Sexton embraced a different role in tonight's game. He dished out an impressive six assists in the first half for the East. He only managed one more assist in the second half, but his first half passing set a positive tone and was the primary entertainment of the night. Sexton also snagged four steals while only turning the ball over three times.

He is a showman who lives the bright lights, but he is also a fearless high level competitor.

Kentucky signee Quade Green also dished out seven assists but matched that total with seven turnovers. Trae Young, who is headed to Oklahoma, lead the West with five assists but also matched that total with five turnovers.

A not so bright spot in the game was the less than stellar three-point shooting. The teams were a combined 11-53 from behind the arc. Young knocked down 3-8 from deep while Kansas signee Billy Preston hit 2-2 from behind the arc.

Preston, who had some positive moments tonight, totaled 10 points for the game.

The top rebounder in the game was Arizona bound big man DeAndre Ayton, who grabbed 11 boards.

Kevin Knox had some nice finishes in transition and ended up with 15 points.

Western Kentucky recruit, Mitchell Robinson displayed his athleticism and immense potential, scoring 14 points and blocking two shots.

Other double digit scorers for the winning West were Jaylen Hands (UCLA), Brandon McCoy, Troy Brown (Oregon) and Charles O'Bannon Jr. (USC).

Wendell Carter (Duke) also hit double figures for the East.

Bamba still has one official left and mentioned Colin and Michael Porter had been talking to him about Bama and Mizzou respectively. He didn't say he'd visit anywhere. He just mentioned he might think about taking his fifth.

As of a few days ago it would serve us fans best to watch the transfers...a lot of serious consideration going on that front right now.

How in the world did Mizzou snag Porter with the recent jettison of their HC? Bamba has the name for it. The game too. How close are we to 13 with the way things stand now?

I hear you there. With the politics even in youth leagues and all the way up through the high school ranks I have been so close to saying the hell with it all and just teaching my kids golf, and letting them work at a young age and hopefully be like a Robby Shelton.
