šŸˆ Cole Cubelic sounds off on Alabama fans still comparing Kalen DeBoer to Nick Saban

Sort of life when Ray Perkins took over after Bear? I'm sure every fan base has done that after a legendary coach left. It's inevitable. And it's human nature. There's an adjustment period. Sometimes it's short, sometimes it's not. Kalen DeBoer is entering his 3rd year at Alabama. If he wins the SEC or a national championship within the next 2-3 years, the comparison will subside a little bit. But the comparison will always be there. Why? Because he's the coach who followed one of the greatest ever. I can't imagine what went through his head (or what's currently going through it) knowing the shoes he had to fill.

Taking advice from a Barner? No thanks.... Is there merit to what he is saying? Sure but that is not going to change expectations at Bama nor should it. CKD knew what he was signing up for. Get the job done is how you make it a non-issue. Bama was built on high expectations but even more so on meeting those expectations. Bama football did not start with CNS nor will it end with him not on the sidelines. Just going to take some time. I believe by year 4-5 you are going to know if he is the man that will get it done.

That didn't include replicating Saban's level of success, never mind the fact he has replicated Saban's first two seasons. But he knows and most fans know he won't replicate Saban's numbers in this era. No one will. Head coaches won't be around long enough at one school to even get close. We've seen what the new rules have done to Smart's and Swinney's empires.

Cole is the most level headed Barner I’ve ever heard speak. To be honest, he isn’t wrong. We do have a fringe portion of this fan base that expect prime CNS results and times have changed with NIL and transfer portal ruining the game.
CKD knows what he signed up for and any coach that is willing to follow Saban knows the pressure because they too are striving for perfection and greatness. The key is, can you adapt, adjust and persevere through the shitfest that is college football.

Have to disagree with this.... If you are just comparing wins and losses ok but year 2 team under CNS announced loudly things are different and it started game 1. Year 2 CKD started out as a disaster but to his credit Mid-Season Bama was trending in the direction that things are different but then it staggered down the stretch so the mid season momentum flamed out in my opinion. Down the stretch in year 1 and 2 have mirrored each other.

To help manage the feeler types around here that get upset if you criticize the program or staff let me expand on things. I fully expected there to be growing pains in the transition and stated it before CKD had coached the first game at Alabama unlike many who thought it would be business as usual year 1. What I did not expect were the bad losses (double digit favorite losses) and the games where they were physically beaten down. Maybe that was naive on my part but it does not invoke confidence.

BTW I agree with the sentiment that as a Barner he is better than most I have heard. However, I do not think once you have been tainted by that cult you will ever fully get that stench out of your system which means he is impacted mentally by Bama as a barner. You watch it will subtly bubble out when opportunity presents itself and by opportunity I mean Bama struggles. Same with Vile fans.
