Maybe.

I doubt that he would be drafted early enough to justify leaving early, but you never know. I hope he comes back, but I wish him all the best.

Actually, though, in the big picture, Coffee leaving early could help Bama in the big picture. If Richardson is the impact player as a freshman that Julio was, it just gets him on the field more and the ball in his hands more often. And that helps get the next 5 star recruits. 5 star recruits want to make an impact immediately. They know that at Alabama under Saban, they will if they prove themselves. If Jones had gone to UT, in contrats, the Pumpkin would not have let him see the field until late in the year. The readiness of Saban to use tgrue freshmen is one thing which has made Bama appealing to Richardson. The more 5 star recruits we keep getting, the more will leave for the NFL early, and in the big picture, that's a pretty good thing.

He is testing the waters so to speak. If he doesn't leave, it could possibly add a few wrinkles to the playbook; 2 back set shotgun formation(Coffee and Richardson, or any other combo). Look for more of the playbook to open up to get more playmakers involved.

I have been putting some thought into the possibility of Coffee leaving early and its possed my interesting and possibly bad questions.

Right now we have Richardson coming in and for all intensive purposes we think he will be very productive and a good solid back, however with the possibility of injury and also the thought of maybe he doesnt end up being ready for the next level right away what are we left with if Coffee leaves.

Ingram- Obviously our number 2 back this year and had a pretty solid year however is he really an every down kind of back? He seems to have good vision and a very nice initial burst with a lot of power but I dont personally see him as an every down runner.

Upchurch- May not be coming back at all depending on the neck.

Grant- Meh he did a pretty good job last year and could step back into the roll but he doesnt appear to be the north south runner that we would want.

Griffin- Much more of a fullback and if Ingram isnt an every down guy then I think Griffin is an exagerated version of that.

Point being yes we have a stable of very good runners but without Coffee do we really have that stand out back who can carry the ball 30+ times a game if (I think he will but just specualting) Richardson isnt quite ready?

We also have the Matchett kid from St Pauls, Preyear(sp?)if he qualifies, Goode, and Richardson to step in to spell Ingram, Upchurch, and Grant if Coffee left.

I don't think Coffee leaves. He is smart to file the paperwork and see how he might possibly do. I'm sure Saban has ansd will offer all the advice needed so that he doesn't make a foolish decision.
