I remember Doug Layton commenting on the broadcast during that game that we were averaging 18 inches per running play in the game.
I know Bobby and I'm sure he'd be cheering Glenn on if he got near the record.
I recall that year pretty clearly in one respect. I never liked Miami, so seeing them beaten in the bowl game that year (giving Penn St the NC) was sweet.
But, specifically, that was just at the beginning of my years really breaking down football games.
Those two teams played some really, really weak competition that year. I recall that between both teams, they had beaten 14 or 15 teams with less than a .500 record on the season. Both were still independents at the time they played.
I also recall having a hard time deciding which team to root for in the bowl game the year before that...with UT playing Miami. That one sticks out because that very easily could have been a Sugar Bowl invite for the Tide that year.
Do you recall that year, 1985, Howard? Should have beaten UT that year...had two chances to score in the 4th and couldn't. All that hope thinking Shula could pull that one out like he had Georgia to open the season?
