🏈 Coffee Going Pro

I think Coffee is one of those players who could benefit GREATLY by coming back for his senior year.

Let's be honest...the young man had one great season and then decides to leave?

Coming back for his senior season would help his stock rise to a very high level.

I know money talks, but it seems like he's cheating himself of some valuable experience. He could learn so much and improve GREATLY if he came back to Bama.

I wonder how he came to the decision that it would be a good idea?

I'm REALLY surprised by this decision. Hope he has a great combine.

Bring on Trent Richardson and my boy Ivan Matchett! I've actually looked forward to a time when our 3 deep would be Ingram/Richardson/Matchett... may be getting my wish sooner than I would have liked though.

Knowing he'll probably be the 5th best RB at best(Moreno, Wells, Greene, and Ringer)...I don't understand the move. I'm sure he's not thinking that but it's probably the truth. I still wish him the best of luck however.

Looks like Richardson will get in the mix next season. :D

I certainly wish him well, but I'm not sure its the right decision. Moreno and Wells will both be drafted ahead of him IMO.

I also think he'd be better served by staying another year. In reality, Coffee's only had one really good season and that was this year. Prior to this season Coffee had always been more of a plodder who had limited explosiveness. He'd be better off playing one more year to solidify his stock. On the other hand, I guess you could argue that his stock might not rise any next year given the fact we're losing some of our best linemen.

I think Coffee should stay, but I wish him the best regardless.

Perhaps he is just tired of college life.

Perhaps he is not willing to commit to the level Saban demands (and if this is true he is in for a rude awakening when he hits the next level).

Perhaps he no longer desires to go to class.

Perhaps he views some money (as little as he might get from a third or fourth or fifth round selection) as better than 'room and board and tuition and books).

Perhaps he sees Smith and Caldwell leaving and having to run behind a line absent those two and more in line with what we fielded in the Sugar Bowl.

Or, perhaps he suffers from what so many of our athletes suffer from - an overly inflated sense of self talent. We have a two year record of 13-13 and then one big year and suddenly our players think they are all world.

Andre Smith I can see. And, as I said to someone a few weeks back, a guy involved in the Florida Gator network told me around Christmas (a day or two either before or after) that Coffee was heavily leaning to go pro. Actually, this guy told me Coffee was gone and that Arenas is giving it serious thought too.

Heaven help us with early outs if our team ever wins a conference and National Title.

As someone stated earlier, Coffee may be the 5th best back entering the draft. It's a definitely questionable move but one that he must deal with. Most likely a second day pick but there could be a surprising call at the end of day one. Good luck and best wishes to him regardless.

I think the loss of Andre and Antione plays into his decision...as well as the potential for reduced carries next season with Richardson and Ingram both on the roster. Of course, Trent will be a true frosh, and you never know how good they will be until they hit the field in a game.

From what I understand, Coffee has been advised that he will be a first day selection. That is a ton of money, and he is just a year removed from recovering from a sports hernia, so he knows how much injuries can affect ability.

While it is possible that another year might help him, I think it is just as likely that another year would hurt him. That being the case, leaving now and getting a seven figure paycheck is the right thing to do.

I wish him well. Ingram and others will fill the void - but I am not as confident in our depth at the position as some. I will play the waiting game before saying we will be just as good. Coffee had a fantastic season.

Perhaps you are right and I guess a half-hearted congrats to your other favorite team. :)

Advisory board has told him his a middle round pick from what I understand.

dittos.

does anyone know if we can assume that Upchurch's neck problems will end his career?

I think the stable will be fine with Coffee leaving and the possibility of Upchurch not coming back. With Preyear coming in now, Ingram already here, Matchett coming off of redshirt, Griffin getting some carries, Goode with some carries, Richardson coming in; and possibly getting another RB in this class, the future will be bright.

If he goes 3rd to 4th round, he will be looking at a signing bonus from 400k-800k, and a salary of around 300k. Depending on combine results, he could be a millionaire even at 3rd round...and comfortable at 4th round.

With the difficulty he had coming off of the sports hernia, and our losses on the OL, I still don't blame him.

If he does really good in the combines and goes 2nd round (possible if not probable) - he is an instant millionaire, probably twice over.

but Terry isn't worried about our OL next year. so what if we lose 3/5 starters, two of whom are 1st team All-Americans, and our top two TEs. we've got Johnson, Ross, and a handful of freshmen and unproven backups coming back.
