🏈 Coaches on the hot seat

If history is any indicator, after the last regular season game is when we start seeing the movement/firings.

I don't see any teams taking the "Haden route."

A good question for today is this: How long has it been since we've seen the SEC conference close out a year and NOT have a coach fired?

I think Pelini goes first.
One day after Bo Pelini said, "If they want to fire me, go ahead," he was backed by his athletic director, at least for now.

AD Shawn Eichorst released a statement on Pelini, saying he will continuing leading the program.

"My approach has always been to not comment publicly about our coaches until their full seasons are complete, as I strongly believe it is unfair and counter to best practices," he said. "However, given the volume of unfounded speculation and conjecture about our head football coach, I want to reaffirm what I have said many times since I have arrived at the University of Nebraska - that I positively respect, appreciate and support our football student-athletes, coaches and staff, as we do everyone in the Husker family. We very much look forward to our upcoming bowl game and Coach Pelini continuing to lead our program in the future."

I heard some ungodly number like $20 mill to get rid of Bo this morning

Pelini, whose contract runs through February 28, 2018, has more than $15 million in future salary on the books. But his contract states that if the university fires him without cause, it would owe him $150,000 a month for the rest of his term.

If he is fired in December, there would be 50 months remaining on the deal ($7.5 million). Then tack on another $150,000 for a bowl game bonus, whether he coaches in it or not.

Well, no wonder Pelini made that comment yesterday.

I'm not hoping Sumlin leaves A&M...but, BUT...there was an agreement in principle in place with fRan...

Coach Sumlin would be a fool to leave TAMU (SEC) for another college team. That being said, he's been getting a pool installed at his house for a few months now...its a big one.

A&M, in the SEC, is a good job. However, there are opportunities likely available that are better jobs. It all depends on what he wants for his family, ya know?

I'd put USC over A&M any day of the week.

I still think your crazy if that makes you feel better.

Sure USC might be a more glamorous job, but he's sitting on an untapped gold mine in the middle of nowhere (College Station)...he just needs to put the pieces together.

I want to see how good Sumlin is without Johnny Football. He has 6 losses in 2 seasons with arguably the best player in football. How many losses will be amass the next 2 years without him. Good to sign a deal before that happens...

You're only confirming something I've known for years but I prefer eccentric.

Your reasoning, "untapped gold mine in the middle of nowhere" doesn't persuade me. He certainly wouldn't be in "the middle of nowhere" at USC.

In terms of the offense he runs, it's arguable he'd have a better pool to choose from and less to compete against.

Here's something to consider as well. Being USC is a private school, the leeway they have in structuring contracts with employees make it a better financial package.
