I can't believe the things Finebaum says about CNS trying to Discredit and turn CNS into the Lowest coach and Recruiter to have ever lived! I support CNS and I'm Thankful that Bama and The Bama Family have a man like CNS that does things the Right Way! I live in West Tn and Never Realized How Many BAMA HATERS Truly are Out There!

Surely you jest! Finebaum is the patron saint of sports in the state of Alabama!

Finebaum is worthless. He's down on Bama and Saban at the moment, two weeks from now he will be down on Chizik and and Auburn again. He cycles to keep an audience. Do yourself a favor and have a talk about football with your dog or son or something.

I used to go to an Episcopal church, and it's sort of half way between Catholic and Protestant. I have heard people take shots at Episcopalians, too. But I think everybody should be judged on his or her own merits.

I've been to Mass in the Catholic Church. I quite enjoyed it as a Baptist. it was diferent and Uniqe.
Why anyone has a problem with a football coaches religion is beyond me. And as far as the Aubies
pushing thier religion i find it some what hypocrital considering the slime that they are. They're actions betray them
to be anything but Christians. As for Finebaum....i staoped listening to him around the Aky game last season.
Something told me the barnner trash and orange & blue love fest was about to go through the roof.
And since i like to keep my food INSIDE my stomache instead of on my pants......i'm done with Paul.

Well Auburn's championship was "a God thing".... so not only was Oregon against Auburn in January but they were also opposing God...

You know, I found those comments after that game by Cam and Chizik much more offensive than anything I ever heard on Finebaum, because I never take anything he says seriously.

But for Auburn to boast that they won the game because God was on their side and thus against the boys on the other team: That's as seriously offensive as it gets to me. Thanking God for His blessings and strength and support is essential, Auburn. But don't confiscate God for your own exclusive use. He no doubt objects to such egos in men.

To Mr. Powell: thank you for your very illuminating post on FB. It illustrates the very definition of "hypocrisy" as it invokes the word "Christian" in one of the most un-Christian posts one could make on an 18 year-old's board and then to wish ill-will - "Enjoy the cold cruelness..." only puts an exclamation point on it. Would Jesus say any of that?

Chizik's statement did not imply exclusivity, although it can be interpreted that way if you want to look for it. Or you could appreciate that the guy is by many standards a pretty good example of what it means to live a Christian lifestyle. He seems like a good family man - in a profession that is not conducive to such a thing. He is unafraid to thank God publicly, despite being in the public eye. And he has the reputation of treating all people with respect when he meets them. (As a side note I have met many coaches, both current and former. Most were outwardly arrogant or even aggressive. The three that I found to be the most open and friendly were Bobby Bowden, Steve Mariucci, and Gene Stallings. I have never met Chizik but his reputation is solid amongst those I know that have.)

I could rail on for hours about how offensive and misguided many Christian leaders, policies, and institutions are. In this case, this is much ado about nothing. If you believe in the concept that God's Will will be done in all things, then it's not hard to see how Chizik and company would assume God was on their side since His Will being done involved Auburn winning. I can't imagine he, or anyone rational, believed that God hates Oregon. I think they were expressing their thanks to God, nothing more.

I have to disagree with your statement, though, that Catholics are still looked down upon in the South as much as ever. It was much worse for Catholics here and all over the U.S. in the early and middle part of the 20th century. Maybe I'm not looking for insult, but as a convert, it's been a long time since anyone looked down on my religion, to my knowledge, except Auburn fans looking for another excuse to hate Coach Saban.

But here's the best reply to all these arguments. Really brilliant, if you take time to think about it.

As far as the merits of the faith of each coach, Christ said "by their fruits you shall know them".

I misspoke about Catholics. It was certainly worse for them a half century ago for sure, and probably much worse before that. I meant that its a little sad that there is still any degree of prejudice against any decent persons chosen belief system. And unfortunately it still exists in many places, including the south.
