Had bama/bear. ties. If I remember right

He was more or less the OC for those 60’s National Championship teams.

My HC in 64 and the 65 seasons was Bobby Smith Co-Captain of the 58 Bama team. Coach often visited the Bama staff during those years for help with his career. Coach Smith lives in Fort Walton and I was living in Destin several of us got together to hash the good ole days. It got around to Coach Bryant and that timeframe which he stated Howard was the smartest man in that room by far and he was just so helpful with the former players/coaches.

RIP

Remember after the 1990 season, Louisville and a hot QB Browning Nagle? beat the Tide pretty good, coached by H Schnellenberger. Story I remember was that Stallings and co was out recruiting and the bowl game was maybe not taken as seriously. CHS and Louisville took it very seriously though and laid a good whipping on us.

Coach Schnellenberger was ahead of his time in the 60's at Bama. He also made the U relevant as bad as I hate to say. He had a good run at Louisville and I believe, started football at Florida International. He was truly a tremendous football coach.
