I was reading an article this morning and read where Coach Homer Smith had passed away at the age of 78. I know he wasn't one of the longest tenured assistants here but he was LOVED and RESPECTED by all of his players. I was a walk on here in the last year of his first stint. He treated everyone as if they were a play away from stepping onto the field. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. Coach Smith, you will be missed,

The man knew offensive football, that's for sure. He made Gary Hollingsworth look like a future all-pro. Not that Gary was bad, he's one of my favorites, but Coach Smith's offense made him look awesome.

He was good for and to Alabama football. I know he consulted at times even past his time as coach. I would have loved to see him return at some point as Coach (Shula years would have been a great time). We could have used his expertise then. As far as I know Homer loved Tuscaloosa so much he stayed after he was no longer coaching. Rest in peace Coach. He was a class act.

I was at a dinner for the coaches of Phil Savage's summer camp that he did in Fairhope AL. Phil knowing I was Bama fan introduced me. He sat with me for a hour and answered all of my questions, told me stories. He was so nice. I dont know if I would have put up with me. Later he even came over to me and we talked more. Call me by name. If I was 18 and playing ball I would gone where he coached. But I am an old man. I also met his grandson that was going to play at Army. You could tell he was proud of him and loved very much. RIP Coach Smith your kind will always be missed.

my dad is a HUGE homer smith fan.. the only time i have ever seen him happy with an alabama offense was when smith was the coordinator.. lol..

he was deffinately a football legend.. i doubt we will ever see 2 bama players at the heisman ceremony again..
