🏀 CM Newton on Grant: "leave him alone...he'll get it right."

Grant has no personality, shows no emotions, does not get excited and does not coach players during a game. What yiou see is what you get whether you are facing him or if he has his back turned to you, nothing. Another year or five years with guy is goin to be no better for the U/A. I think it is to late to start all over again with the same guy. Respect what C.M. Newton says and thinks but think he is wrong with the same old no show of Grant. I think maybe Auburn will end our pain with this guy in Tuscaloosa as bad as I don"t want to say. Just hoping B.B. will see the light if he hasn't already and hire someone that can at least contend in the SEC for years to come. Let Nick do the hiring and see how it turns out. ROLL TIDE ROLL

Let ushe clear.M. Newton has forgotten more basketball than all the members of this forum have ever known. As we have seen in fits and starts there is some talent on hand, significantly more than M.
St. Aub., or S.C. The man hates losing, he just has not been able to fix it this year.

Two questions come to mind.
1. If we make a coaching change, what will happen to our signees. Justin Coleman, especially, has other options and might seek a release.

2. Who would we get who is better? Young guns like Wright, Few or Miller will not leave where they are to come here. Bobby Knight is not coming out of tetirement.b

I confess that I am very disappointed this year. Especially so with several players who have not gotten better this season.

I still favor keeping Grant, but I am not enthusiastic aboutnit any more.

Actually my problem withm is not so much player development (thGt depends to a great extent on how hard a player works in the off season) but on our offense. With three regular season games to go we still do not have a .good idea what we want to do when the clock is running down and Releford is not open. We have two junior wing players who were highly regarded high school shooters who are almost afraid to put up a shot. Beong tesm oriented snd passing the ball is usually a good thing, but sometimes (most times) the best thing for the team is for the open shooter to take the shot. Grant says in his post game show that he tells these guys to shoot when they areopen, but the problem persists.

I will go on the record that if we do not beat the barn tomorrow it will be hard for battle to keep Grant.

Its not just even passing up on an open shot, its also the ability to create an open shot. I have not seen one effective ball screen this year from Alabama. Too many guys standing around, not in motion, trying to create an open shot. Shannon Hale and Relly will try to open a man up sometimes when they get a double team, but still nothing open inside.

Lose by 20 today and I would say we will be talking about next year's coach before the end of the month. I keep hearing the comment "who would Bama get that I any better than Grant?" Really? You think money doesn't talk? Before you think I sound like that Texas fan we had around for a while, at least think about what a nice payout might get.

Does anybody know for sure if Alabama talked to Bill Self a while back about the job and money was the issue. Self was making $3 million at Kansas and wanted $ 4 million to come to Alabama is what I have heard. Don't know if there is any truth to it or not. Does anyone more about this? If it is true I would say pay the money and get a Coach that knows the game and can recruit. Lets face it money is not the problem at Alabama.
Grant has got to go and no he will not be like Mark and get a job at another major school and hit payday.
ROLL TIDE ROLL

I wonder what the buyout on Grant is right now as opposed to last year. I think the one hang up would be a large buyout and then trying to land a big name at $3+ mill per year. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I know this season has seen a rash of injuries, but their are quite a few Ws that were turned to Ls due to coaching or the lack thereof! Grant needs to be shown the door.

I believe the buyout is 4 mil. at the end of this season and goes down 1 mil. per year.

I would like to see us offer in no particular order:

Archie Miller-Dayton
Mark Few- Gonzaga
Payne- the assistant at Kentucky, been with Cal since UMass
The coach at Memphis

It is time for a change. While I am not a fan of Darin Horn, I agree heartily with one thing that he said on the broadcast Tuesday. The game plan should have been to get Levi 20 shots, with everyone else going to the boards. If that had been the plan all year I am convinced we would have been better. I expect that the Aggies will remember how we spanked them in Tuscaloosa when they were shorthanded and run us off the floor Saturday. I can't remember when I have been this disappointed in a team/coach, probably the Hobbs years.

Who would we get...

Terry and I exchanged texts a few weeks ago about this guy

J

He is Steve Prohm, currently HC of a very successful program at Murray State. He did not play college hoops at the D-1 level, but he is an Alabama graduate. He is a coaching disciple of Billy Kennedy, the current aTm coach. I think I can overcome the revulsion of XCMG coming to us from this school, and think he might be worth a look.

I would consider Andy Kennedy. If money was what it took, we could outbid Ole Miss for him.

When you get into the bigger names in coaching you run into problems such as coaches being very content where they are at this stage in their career, such as Coach K, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Bill Self, or at a school now where basketball is really appreciated, like Jay Wright, Mark Few, Seth Miller, Jamie Dixon, as opposed to a school that pays little attention to hoops until football is over.

I believe that Grant's buyout is now 4 million. The way we are bleeding attendance wise, it would be a good decision to pony it up.

I agree it's time for CAG to go. Do any of you think the unknowns at Bama right now make getting a replacement more difficult? We don't have a permanent solution for a school President and at best probably an AD who will be gone within a couple of years.

Probably not a big deal with anyone we could get. Even at low Tide, I would think our BB program is an attractive job for an up and coming coach who's hungry to do his thing.

Cue @TerryP He'll straighten you out and tell you how and why the Tide can't and shouldn't pay big bucks for a coach.
This should ring a bell because you've seen it before.

Before you start telling people what others think, you should take the time to make sure they've said what you espouse as their thoughts.

Once again, you're choosing to put words in my mouth....things I've never said here or anywhere for that matter.

Since you have chosen to bring it up, I'll ask the same question as I have. "This reads like you believe throwing money at a problem will fix it. That's based on what?"

Before you drop the Saban answer...I DO recall you admitting you can't make legitimate comparisons between the two sports. It's no different than trying to compare our football program with Kentucky, or our basketball program.
