🏈 Clowney

And on that note, I think it's important to remember that we won the "recruiting national championship" according to rivals in 2008 and '09 and then we were like 2nd or 3rd in '10, so w/ or w/o getting these major guys that we talk about here, there are athletes that have been maturing and developing waiting for a time like next year when they will have a chance to jump onto the scene-- and thats just one of the many things that we have at our advantage going into next years season...

I agree we are so loaded and deep that a top 5 class would be outstanding. Yes I'd love to get Clowney but Cyrus is the man we need to focus on. IMO we land both Clowney and Cyrus on signing day just to jam it in the Barns face.

After heaing abut Clowneys unofficial vist to a USCe basketball game versus UK, getting him will be a shocker. dont think he should be a usthave for our class.....Cyrus is HUGE though And most of t is muscle/ I anticipate him taking the strongest player title, or atleast giving chapman a run for his money as soon as he gets here.

There are plenty of good players to be had.

Lost me a bit...give Chapman a run for what? Two different positions and Chapman isn't the "strongest player" on the team...

As long as he signs in the SEC, he will get to the next level. Signing here though, puts him in the best position to win alot more, SEC Titles, National Titles, and any individual awards that he might have as a goal.

DeQuan Bowers.

Did his signing with Clemson have any bearing on where he's drafted?

Eh, that might just be me then. Chapman's strength was made a big deal of when he had to filll in for Cody in the '08 UT game because he had an MCL sprain, or some kind of sprain or bruise.

I dont know if anyone took that from him within the last two years though.

I don't know if that's entirely true. I think USC is still probably a dark horse to be considered a favorite for the SEC Championship but they are probably going to be one of the best 3-4 teams in the league next year. If Clowney has an immediate impact, and its realistic to think he will, USC could be a top 5 team heading into the SECCG and they are good enough to beat any SEC team on a given day.

It's also pretty likely that the SEC title is going to continue to rotate between the top 4-5 programs over the next few years, just as it has in the last decade or so.

The Gamecocks are on an upswing as a program and some people prefer to play in state. I still think you guys have a good shot at him, but it sounds like USC is the clear front runner.

I've always thought Ellis Johnson was a 4-3 guy. I know he ran a 4-3 at Bama and MSU. Maybe I just didn't pay close enough attention this year, but has he switched to the 3-4?

I meant one of the best three or four teams in the SEC. Not one of the best 3-4(defense) teams in the SEC.

I think the only SEC teams that run the 3-4 are Alabama and Georgia right?

I don't know how much of a true darkhorse they would be considered. They will easily be the top team in the East next year. I'm not sold on Richt being able to pull it together at UGA and UF is about to undergo a drastic offensive change under Weiss, there will be growing pains. Tennessee is still no real threat. I truly think the East is USC's to lose next year. They don't lose much from this year; that will be a hungry team if they make it to Atlanta. If USC takes care of business next year the Ol' Ball Coach may finally show he wasn't an idiot for taking that job. I think there is a much better chance of Bama winning an MNC than USC, but they could certainly win the SEC.

Momma wants Clowney to stay in-state, my gut says that's where he stays. He will make the league either way it goes if he continues to develop physically. I think he needs to fill his frame in a bit more.

Momma gave him her blessing to come to Bama if he wanted to. My thing is his pops. Supposedly he's on probation for something and he can't leave the state so he wants his boy to stay in-state so he can go to the games. Regardless I've thought for awhile Clowney goes to SC.

I still think we land Clowney. Cyrus has been our's to lose. If Cyrus doen't come to Bama it's because we pulled our offer and that's not going to happen. Clowney's parents both gave him their blessings to go out of state if that's where he wants to go. Clowney's Dad is on probation, but he gets off in May (ESPNU was talking about that very thing).

This could be something...but then again not.

If momma wanted to say something nice, knowing that her son was not leaving the state, this is what it would look like.

If she honestly did prefer Bama, but her son wanted USC, this is the kind of thing that might be said in public.

If her son wanted to go to Bama but she wanted USC and was put on the spot to make a comment, this might be the words...until she has "a private family discussion" later.

But then again, if they were both sold on Bama and did not want to let that cat out of the bag, this too is what it would sound like.

I still think the question is this: What is the horrible thing that will happen if Clowney goes to school at USC with his friends and just down the road from Momma? 'Cause without an answer to that he is a USC lock.
