The only place I ever saw Chow's name in relation to our search was on message forums where people were just throwing names out there...in all honesty, I don't think he was ever officially considered for the position.

Along those same lines, Hatcher said yesterday there wasn't any interest in him taking the position as well. It was an emphatic NO. That was a no in terms of him having interest and a no in terms of Alabama having contacted him about the position.

About all we can say where there is little doubt is there have been conversations with Brohm but there wasn't an offer. In fact, around the UL program in general it wasn't enough to even start a lot of rumors on the subject.

TCU's OC/QB coach is a new name thrown out there as well...

Here's the link to the Chow to UCLA story from ESPN

Quite frankly, I am beginning to have some questions about Saban's ability to assemble a first rate offensive staff here.

Last year we lost out on Stacy Searles as the OL coach, he was clearly Saban's first choice, and not only did he end up with a secondary choice, but he made that secondary choice a co-OC.

And Applewhite was clearly the fourth or fifth choice for OC (Fisher, Brohm, Clements all said 'no' before Applewhite got a call). And this year, I see a similar pattern developing.

It is, or should be, obvious that Saban had to rush last year to assemble what he could in a staff due to time pressures - needed people to recruit at a minimum, and not everyone he wanted was available (but Searles, Fisher, Brohm, Clements, and a few others were available but still said 'no'). But this year is different, but things appear the same.

Let's not rush to a judgement to soon on the OC coach selection. I have confindence in knowing that Saban wants to make the very best decision on who is a candidate for OC. Once he finds who he likes then there are lots of things that have to come together to make it a reality. Give it time, it's only been week or so..

Well, he did hire Mike Sherman, but Sherman left about 2 weeks later to go back to the NFL.

Personally, I think Shawn Watson may be a good choice.

I've had some of the same thoughts, but then I know nothing happening on the inside. I only have the media, so I'm definitely not gettting the whole story.

I guess I don't understand why someone from Georgia Southern wouldn't be interested in coming to Alabama if those leaks are true. You're head coach down there and Alabama calls (or maybe they don't, who really knows?). Do you not drop the phone and run to Tuscaloosa? ;scr I mean this is Alabama!

And supposedly the same thing happened with the Brohm guy from Louisville. Again, maybe they were never even offered but to have them withdraw their names??? What does that mean? I really don't know. One thing is for sure. For those that said Saban ousted Applewhite and had an OC all lined up...well that crew was definitely wrong.

Bo...

I don't share the up-front enthusiasm about Watson. While I think the Nebraska offense was not the problem last year (in fact, I think their offense was pretty good on average), Callahan was the play-caller and real offensive coordinator of that system.

Watson seems to be Coordinator in name only at Nebraska. Carl Franks was the OC at Florida for a few years in the mid-90's. Anyone think he, and not Spurrier, was the person responsible for developing and executing the offensive game plan? (Speaking of Franks, I really wish he would at least get a phone call from Saban. Truly wonderful person, a good coach, a great reputation among Florida HS coaches. Might have a hard time luring him away from Tampa though.)

Also, I don't remember Saban hiring Mike Sherman last year? Not saying you are making it up, I just don't remember. But if so, that would only serve to point out that Applewhite was even further down the wish list.

The former I for some reason do not believe but the later has yet to play out NSD has not arrived yet and my gut tells me it might have something to do with it. Of course I could be completely wrong. If so, its freaking January...who cares, Saban has time to look.

Yeah, I knew he wasn't even in the running, but I really like his offense...

You are thinking of Steve Marshall.

Ahhhh. Well, at least I had the right letters of his initials. Inverted, but it was still an M and an S.

:D
