šŸˆ CFP meetings this week. Without expansion, one stakeholder observed, "I wish Alabama best of luck in the next four championship games."

I don't get it... what's his point? Isn't the idea to have the best 4 teams ? If you expand it more, it's even a bigger chance. there are maybe a handful of programs that can compete year in and year out.

You (the committee and those wanting it) are really making a mistake by expanding the teams. In the instance you get lucky like a few years ago when Alabama lost two games and didn't make the Playoff, you'd almost be willing to bet with an expansion they would be. Now, what are the chances Alabama loses a third game in a season? If they thought us losing two was very low, what are the chances we lose three? Also, we make it in that year without playing in the SEC Championship. So you have a program not used to losing three games in a season under Saban. It has to be less than 5%. Then you also have a team more rested and not having played in an SEC Championship game. That's a dangerous scenario for the #1 or #2 seed having to get us in the first round.

My point was that if they expand it more, the chances of Alabama making the final is even greater. I personally don't want any more than 4 and in honesty, I didn't really want 4 teams either...

. . . . . Which means the nation, for the most part, is butthurt 'Bama has been so dominant under CNS that they are running out of ways to eliminate them from the National Championship Game.

Perhaps, if programs or conferences would actually concentrate all their damn efforts & money at playing better football they'd have more teams than compete with 'Bama. But what do I know.

I don't want football to become basketball. The regular season doesn't mean much, only the playoffs. Teams from a tough conference (think SEC) get beat up during the regular season and conference championship game, and then have to play 3 or 4 more games in the playoffs. Four teams going to the playoffs is enough.

Well....everyone has an opinion....
Me....i am in favor of expansion....

Think 12 is stupid...but 8 is on the money...
If you win ur conference....you should be in...
If not...then your conference should be G5 ...not a P5
Alot...whole lot...make funof other P5 conferences....big12...pac 10...acc...
But...they produce good competitive teams.....and we are in era of super teams..
Bama...osu...Clemson...uga,..

Should be room for late finishers..or top teams that have "that game" and lose conference Cc game ( ie UGA last year)...or dont get to CC game ( bama 2017)
And go on to win NC ....I submit as evidence....

And that will produce another "CFP weekend" .... instead of crap bowl games to watch

Or how about dropping the regular season down to 10 games + conference championship game, then expanding the playoffs to 8 teams?

By dropping 2 games during the regular season, and adding 1 additional playoff game, those teams in the playoffs would conceivably be playing 1 less game, per season vs. the current format.

12 regular season games + 1 conference championship game + 2 playoff games = 15 total games

10 regular season games + 1 conference championship game + 3 playoff games = 14 total games (again, only for those 2 teams that make it to the final game)

$$$$

Well, what about the teams that don't make the POs? They just have a 10-game season, and maybe a Bowl game, and that's it? That's cheating an awful lot of CFB fans out of some good football games just to satisfy the Championship aspirations of a few teams. Unless I'm missing something.
Which is entirely possible, so help me understand please.

Well....ok... @im4uainva
Then for teams not going toCFP....get 2 games....matched at end of season...
By committee...
One home..oneaway...
Bowl sites can buythe games from host teams ...

Be better than some non conference crap games that are scheduled
..

It's the same teams playing each other.

6 could work with 1-2 getting a bye...
At least get conference champions in...
IMO, the whole ā€œmust include conference championsā€ is BS. Several of the Big 5 conference champs just aren’t good enough. Of course that, in theory, limits the opportunity for Notre Dame or BYU to get in. So then they make a rule that ND and BYU get special consideration. Let’s go with the top X teams regardless of conference. Georgia didn’t win the conference last year. Did they deserve to be in the playoffs?

You can add the PAC to that in recent years, plus what will a post-TX/OK Big 12 champion look like with that conference watered down with BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF?

I cannot see the SEC allowing expansion to make it harder for a second SEC team, or make it impossible for a third SEC team, to get it.

Tim
